His eyebrows rose as he held his arms in the air. “You can do anything you want to me in that green dress.”

“It’s mint!”

“It’s green.”

With a growl, I grabbed his arm and pulled him down the hall. “Come on. Josie’s waiting.”

Once we reached the waiting limo, where Josie was settling Harrison into his carseat, Adam’s hand grazed my lower back, and a shiver rolled over me. “It’s green,” he whispered into the shell of my ear. “And it’s sexy as fuck.”

The hairs on my neck danced under his breath. “Adam…”

“What? I’m just having a little fun.”

“Are you guys coming?” Josie poked her head out of the limo door. “Grayson will kill us if we’re late.”

Melanie and Scott’s wedding was at their beach house farther up the coast, so we hired an eight-seater limo so we could all go together. Josie sat with Harrison toward the front, Adam sprawled himself over the side seat, and I enjoyed the back to myself. It was luxurious and spacious, and Adam had no good excuse to be close to me.

Fifteen minutes later, we arrived at Reed’s parents’ house, and Amy and Reed piled in.

Amy dove onto me with a squeal. “Cassidy!”

“Hey, sis.” I giggled at her overenthusiastic affection, before returning it. She was such a free spirit, and I loved that about her.

“Hey, Cassidy. Hey, Jos.” Reed settled beside Adam and shook his hand. “And you must be Adam.”

“He prefers Mr. Harlow,” Amy said with a snigger.

“I’m not your boss anymore, Amy. You can call me Adam.”

My eyebrows lifted. “Mr. Harlow? Like your dad?”

Adam pursed his lips. “At work, yes. And we’re not talking about that, remember?”

“How’s baby H, Jos?” Amy launched across the limo to the empty seat beside her. She peered into his baby carseat and cooed. “Remember when Finn was this little, Cass?”

All the blood drained from my face while Josie poked Amy in the ribs.

“Oh.” Panic consumed my sister’s eyes. “You know, Finn…our…cousin?”

“Yes,” I forced out while my heart pounded against my chest. “He was a gorgeous baby, too.”

Reed screwed up his nose. “Cousin? I didn’t kn—"

“Yes, our cousin!” Amy shot Reed a look. “Who you haven’t met yet.”

“Oookay,” he said, shaking his head in confusion.

Thankfully, Adam was preoccupied with a bottle of champagne and was too busy filling glasses to notice the awkwardness bouncing around the limo.

Josie eagerly reached out for the first poured glass. “One of those better be for me.”

Adam looked at me apologetically before passing it to his sister-in-law. “Aren’t you breastfeeding?”

“I have a two-bottle window, and I plan to abuse it.”

Adam shrugged, clueless to her meaning, and poured another. “Here.” He handed me the next glass.

Our hands touched, and our eyes collided, and the usual coolness of his blue eyes was gone. Instead of peering into the depths of the Arctic Ocean, the shade had morphed into the warm turquoise waters of the Maldives, and I could already feel myself drowning.
