Who doesn’t like to hear they’re the best fuck ever?

My inner nag, however, was convinced he’d only said that to get me into bed again. But why would he need me when he had that pretty girl in designer virtually sucking on his earlobe? I imagined she would offer herself at the end of the night. Ethan was way too horny to knock back a gorgeous girl.

Jealousy twisted me into knots, and my head nearly dislocated from my neck as I watched them leaving. Together.

Just as he was about to step through the door, he turned and waved at me. Talk about rubbing it in.

A sudden surge of frustration hit me. Why did I have to scale the slippery slope of morality when I could just wade in that blissful morass of apathy?

Or was it that on a deeper level, like I’d admitted to Sheridan, I was trying to protect myself from heartbreak?

Men like Ethan Lovechilde didn’t marry girls like me.

Marry?

Since when, did I want to marry?

I thought about my parents, who were very much in love until their lives came to heart-shattering end from a car accident.

They werealsovery different. My father came from wealth, despite my grandfather gambling it away, and my mother from a farming background.

Steve waved back at Ethan.

“Ethan’s a good guy underneath those designer jackets.” He chuckled.

“Really?” I scrunched my brow. “He’s about to knock down your livelihood.”

“That’s Caroline Lovechilde.”

“What about that spa? The Newmans are about to lose everything.”

“Not from what I’ve heard.” He pointed at my empty glass. “Another?”

I shook my head. “What do you mean?”

After Steve told me about Ethan paying for the Newmans’ relocation and a holiday they couldn’t normally afford, I sprang off my chair like I’d been bitten on the bum. I had to find Ethan before that girl’s puffy lips squelched on his dick.

“Are you okay?” Steve asked.

“I’m fine.” I kissed him on the cheek and raced out the door, without getting my pay or saying goodbye to Theadora and Declan, who were making a night of it.

I stepped outside, and on spotting Ethan’s red sportscar, I sprinted. My heart thumped in my ears.

Just as I got there, I noticed a blonde head down near his crotch.

Oh shit, she’s blowing him.

My heart turned the size of a pea, and my legs buckled. Then he saw me. I probably looked like I’d walked in on a lewd act—and I had. Only why did it have to be the man who’d stolen my heart?

Chapter 12

Ethan

IpushedSiennaaway. My dick slept—a first for my once-restless member. Had those steamy nights with Mirabel drained my body of testosterone? Or something a little less clinical and deeper? So deep that I no longer recognised myself?

Now she probablyreallyhated me. The way her eyes went from warm and playful to shock and horror within a blink made me want to yell.

I wasn’t even into Sienna. All I did was offer her a lift back to Merivale, and she’d pounced on me, her teeth yanking at my fly. She was meant to be hanging with my sister, but Savanah had left earlier with Dusty.
