“I feel like I’m in the middle of that dream where you’re running through your elementary school trying to find where your exam is being held,” I fret. “While naked.”

Mase shakes his head. “Never had that dream.”

“Of course you haven’t.”

“I like the naked part. We can practice that again.”

My cheeks flush. I’ve been naked quite a good portion of the morning, and Mase expressed his disappointment when I began putting on my clothes. As much as I wanted to spend the whole day locked in his room, I knew I had to show my face or Bexley would start to wonder.

Getting dressed proved to be the biggest challenge—once Mase knew there wasn’t anything he could say to make me stay, he tried to persuade me to stay in other…interesting…ways.

I’m now missing two buttons on my dress. To hide the gap, Mase gifted me with one of his practice T-shirts. The destruction of my dress was worth having something of his to sleep with.

“When can we practice?” Mase asks. “I mean, when am I seeing you again?”

“It’s an odd question to ask one’s wife.”

“I think we both agree, darlin’, that this is an odd situation.”

The understatement of the year. “Let’s get tonight over with,” I suggest. “We can tell everyone tomorrow. I don’t think I can wait much longer.”

Mase smiles with relief at my confession. “Glad it’s not just me.”

Keeping it quiet is the best thing, but it’s so hard. This is the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to me, and I can’t tell a soul.

“No one will believe it,” I whisper in case the walls are listening. “Thatyoumarried someone likeme.”

“You got that wrong—no one will believe you married me. You’re in a different league, darlin’. I don’t deserve you.”

“I’m in your league now.” An expression I can’t read flashes across his face. I can’t think about his life and my life and the improbability of them seamlessly merging into one. Because that’s what happens when you get married. Two people—one life together.

I have no idea how that’s going to work.

But that’s a discussion for tomorrow, or at least for after I’ve gotten some sleep. “What are you doing for the rest of the day?” I ask.

“Thinking about you.”

I roll my eyes but can’t stop the smile. “Other than that.”

“I think I’ll go to the gym for an hour. I seem to have an abundance of energy this morning, considering the lack of sleep. If you have any other opinions on how I should spend that energy…?” He wiggles his eyebrows.

“Mase,” I chide, cheeks aflame now. I know it’s only been a day—a few hours, really—but I’ve never felt sowantedbefore.

I’ve never felt remotely like this before.

“I’m going to bed,” I tell him in a prim voice. “You should do the same.”

“I think I’m going to like you ordering me around, especially in bed.”

“Stop it.” I push away from him, shopping bag in my hand, and want nothing more than to throw my arms around him. Instead, after a wary look around, I raise on my tiptoes and give him a quick kiss.

“That’s it?” he groans. “I brought my A game, and that’s all I get?”

“Later,” I concede.

“Promise?”

“Pretend I’m kissing you. That’ll have to do.”
