“I didn’t come home alone.” She held her hands together in front of her chin in a prayer-like gesture.

“Oh my god!” Keira glanced behind her and lowered her voice. “You brought Tiffany back here?”

“Not Tiffany, no …” Mischief flashed in her eyes. “There may be a conniving wench in my bed.”

Keira’s eyes widened. “You took Seren out with you after the pub?”

“I think she had a good time.”

“She’s spent her entire life living on a quiet island. I’d say going out with Gay Phil and the gang was a bit of an education for her.”

“She was cool. Everyone loved her.”

“And then you decided to bring her back here? Please tell me you didn’t accidentally kiss her as well.”

“No!” Mel looked vaguely disgusted. “She’s straight.”

“Who’s straight?” Noah asked, yawning as he walked in.

“Seren,” Mel replied.

He arched an eyebrow. “It almost sounds as though you tested her on that.”

“I didn’t test her.” Mel giggled and rested her head on her arms again. “It’s pretty obvious.”

“Did she get home all right?” Noah asked, getting mugs from the cupboard and pouring them coffees.

“It depends on what you mean byhome,” Mel told him. “If you’re referring to my bed then yes she got home fine. You probably didn’t mean my bed though, did you?”

“No.” A smile played on his lips as he put steaming mugs in front of them. Nudging Keira off the chair, he sat down and pulled her onto his lap. “So Seren’s in your bed?”

“Yeah.” Dragging her head from the table, Mel picked up her coffee. “Don’t look so worried, I didn’t turn her. She’s as straight this morning as she was last night. Two people can share a bed without any sexual shenanigans, you know.”

“I know that,” Noah replied with a certainty that made Keira twist around to look at him. His eyebrows twitched together questioningly, but their silent communication was cut short by Seren walking in.

“My head hurts,” she said, her eyes only open a slit as she shuffled to the coffee pot and poured herself a cup. “That was a crazy night. Are all your nights out that wild?” she asked Mel.

“They used to be, until I got myself a straight friend.” Mel tipped her head towards Keira.

“Hey!” Keira laughed. “I’m wild sometimes.”

“No.” Mel rolled her eyes. “You’re the opposite of wild. I can’t remember the word …”

“Tame,” Noah said.

Keira elbowed him. “Don’t you join in.”

“I wasn’t saying you’re tame.” He leaned his head on her shoulder. “I was just saying it’s the opposite of wild.”

“You’re tame,” Mel said. “It’s not a bad thing. You keep my nights out nicely balanced. I couldn’t cope with too many nights like last night.” Heaving herself from the chair, she declared she was going back to bed.

“Mind if I join you?” Seren said through a yawn.

“I don’t mind.” She ruffled Noah’s hair. “This one might get worried you’re turning lesbian though.”

“I never said anything of the sort.” He chuckled as he swatted Mel away. “We have to leave in an hour,” he told Seren. “I hope you haven’t forgotten you volunteered to help carry my luggage.”

“Oh god.” She groaned on her way to the door. “That tiny plane isn’t going to be any fun with a hangover.”
