The mention of them leaving made Keira’s stomach drop and she focused on her coffee until Noah gently nudged her off his lap.

“Come on,” he said, taking her hand.

“Where are we going?”

“Back to bed.” He wiggled his eyebrows and she smiled as she followed him.

As the bedroom door clicked into place behind them, Keira looked up at the serious set of his features, realising his wiggling eyebrows hadn’t been as suggestive as she’d thought, but a ploy to manoeuvre her towards a serious talk.

She decided she’d get in there first. “Did you and Seren share a bed on Friday night?” she asked, knowing that if she didn’t ask him outright she’d be left wondering.

“No.” He sank onto the bed. “I told you I slept on the couch.”

“I know you said that, but of course you’d say that.”

“I said it because it was true,” he said calmly. “But it was a bit of an issue.”

“How so?”

He exhaled loudly as she sat beside him. “Usually, we’d have shared a bed. We’ve shared a bed loads of times and nothing has ever happened. It felt weird now so we didn’t, but …”

“Seren was annoyed about it?”

“No. Not annoyed. Surprised maybe.” He looked at Keira intently. “You still don’t trust her, do you?”

“I suppose not. I want to, but I can’t quite let myself.”

“I get it.” The corners of his mouth twitched upwards. “It must be hard to believe she’s not attracted to me!”

Keira knocked her shoulder against his, but her smile faded quickly. “It is, actually.”

His eyes softened with longing and adoration and she leaned into him until their lips melted together.

“I need to ask you something,” he murmured, pulling away too soon.

“That sounds serious.”

He took her hand, focusing on it as he slotted his fingers into hers. “I was wondering if you might like to come with me …”

He said the words so quietly she wasn’t even sure she’d heard right.

“What?” She squeezed her eyes closed, trying to be sure she’d understood him properly.

“I don’t mean like now, today,” he added in a rush. “But you could come with me … later …”

“To the Isles of Scilly?”

“Yes.”

“To live?”

“Yeah.”

She waited for him to break into a smile but his features remained serious. “I can’t move to Scilly,” she said, shocked by the suggestion.

“Why not?”

She spluttered a laugh. “Because we’ve only been dating for six weeks.”
