“It’s good to see Seren having fun. She’s much more relaxed when she’s away from home.”

“Are you going to miss working in the Flute and Fiddle?” Keira asked when they walked into her building.

“Not particularly. Although there is this one hot regular who always brightened up my shifts.”

She smiled sadly as they got into the lift and rode up in silence. Going straight to her bedroom, she closed the door behind them and cut Noah off when he started to speak.

“I don’t want to talk about you leaving tomorrow,” she said. “I don’t want to think about it. Okay?”

His Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed. “Okay. What shall we talk about then?”

“I don’t think there’s any need to talk at all.” She draped her arms around his neck and pressed her body against his. “Do you?”

“I don’t really have a lot to say.” He rubbed his nose against hers, making her smile before he kissed her deeply.

With a heavy heart, Keira untangled herself from Noah the following morning and pulled on a pair of pyjama bottoms and a T-shirt.

Noah stirred as she opened the bedroom door. “Where are you going?” he grumbled.

“To get coffee.”

“Get coffee,” he echoed, his face still squished into the pillow. “Then come back here.”

She smiled and let her eyes linger on his naked form tangled in the bedding. “Will do.”

In the hallway, the smell of coffee already filled the air and she followed it to the kitchen. As the coffee dripped into the pot, Mel waited at the kitchen table, her forearms creating a pillow for her head.

“You’re up early,” Keira remarked, making Mel wince.

“I need coffee.”

“Wild night, was it?”

With a groan, Mel raised her head slightly. “There are a couple of things I need to tell you about my night … please don’t judge me too harshly for any of it…”

“This sounds bad.” Keira sat opposite her with her leg folded under her on the chair.

“I ended up going into town after the pub … met up with Phil and everyone. Then we went to this house party …” She winced. “Tiffany was there.”

“So?” Keira demanded.

“I might have accidentally kissed her.”

“How do you accidentally kiss someone?”

“There was a lot of alcohol involved,” she said defensively. “And she was being really sweet. It was good to catch up with her.”

“Why do I feel as though there’s more to this story?”

Her shoulders lifted to her ears as she grimaced. “I might have agreed to go out with her sometime, just the two of us.”

“Mel! Why? I thought you’d moved on.”

“I thought so too. I don’t know what it is about her. It’s like she hypnotises me.” Her eyebrows rose apologetically.

“You’ve still got more to confess about your evening, haven’t you?”
