“It’s experiment day,” Mary said. “Once a week, we comeup with ideas and spend the day just experimenting. We’ll be taking them to the clubhouse once it’s all done and get some feedback.”

Luna didn’t know why she was told that. Everyone was telling her so many things with regard to their personal lives and the club. Were they making it harder for her to pull away when the time came?

After the summer, she didn’t know where she was going to be or what she was going to do. Her life was so unsettled.

“Great, I wanted to talk to you about Mac.”

Mary tensed up and shook her head. “Sweetheart, I have nothing to do with Mac anymore. Trust me, I cannot help you with him.”

“It’s just that I got my old job, waitressing for him, and well, er, he, seems so different.”

“People change,” Mary said.

“He doesn’t open the diner every single day. He still pays me, and I’m not complaining because I need the money, but he won’t hire any new waitresses. I know with how people are feeling. We’re losing customers because he’s all over the place. I know he will listen to you.”

Mary held her hand up. “I nearly— My marriage nearly came to an end because of my dealings with Mac Reynolds. I don’t know who you can speak to about this, but it’s not me. Mac and I haven’t spoken for a long time.”

“Oh,” Luna said. “I, I’m sorry.”

“You don’t need to be sorry. Mac has his own way of handling the diner. I know there were many times he wanted to cut and run. To leave Vale Valley. It might be in your best interest to find another job.” Mary put a hand on her arm. “Would you like to come inside? We’ve got something baking. I don’t know exactly what we have baking, but it’s available.”

“Thanks, but I’m going to have to, you know, get back.”The diner was once again closed.

Marry pulled her in for a hug. “Don’t be a stranger.”

Luna made her escape, rushing to her car. What was with everyone? Especially the entire fucking Trojans MC.

Shaking her head, she turned over her ignition and pulled out of Duke’s driveway. It was more of a parking lot.

Her next destination was a couple of hours out of Vale Valley.

After her meeting with Duke last night, she had made the call to an old friend. His name was Harris, and while they’d been studying, he had let it drop a few times that he could get his hands on some dope.

She had a horrible feeling this was some fucked-up test by Duke. Either way, the Trojans MC’s Prez had asked her this personally, and she wasn’t going to fuck that up.

Not for Matthew.

Luna had a hunch that his loose tongue would possibly get him in trouble, but she wasn’t going to allow him to get punished for trusting her.

You care about him.

You love him.

You don’t want to see him hurt.

“Shut up,” she told herself.

Matthew was freaking Matthew. No, she didn’t want to see him hurt or worse. His dream was to become a fully fledged Trojans MC member, and she wasn’t going to allow anyone or anything to come between his dream.

She gripped the steering wheel and drove to the location where Harris had told her to meet him.

This wasn’t fun, nor was it exciting. Her hands shook as she pulled into the secluded place. No one was around. She kept her car running but pulled on the hand brake.

Every fiber of her being screamed at her not to get involved. Sheknew it was stupid, but still, she sat there, waiting. She could tell Duke to fuck off, tell all of the Trojans MC to piss off, but she didn’t want to do that. This was Matthew’s family.

She closed her eyes, and as she did, she heard the sound of another car pulling into the spot beside her. He was close. Too close for her to get out of the car.

As she wound down her window, he did the same.
