“Yes, but if it’s the only way to keep this little one alive, then so be it.” She quickly changed the subject. “So back to the whole fucking around behind Sabbath’s back thing. Do you think you’ll keep doing it?”

My mind wandered to Sandman, and I smiled shyly. “Would it be horrible of me if I said yes?”

“No. Especially if you’re connecting with Snyder the way you say you are.”

“It’s not just him, though. I know it sounds slutty, but the idea of running through his council, and taking them all on, makes me wet as hell. All of them are hot as fuck, and two just doesn’t seem like enough—not enough to even the score.”

Ramona’s expression was void of emotion.Great, does she think I’m a whore?

“Just be careful,” she warned. “Some of the guys have big mouths, and if word got around about this, there’s no telling how Sabbath would react.”

My phone picked that exact moment to ring, and I groaned when I saw his name on the screen.

“What?” I growled, annoyed that he wasn’t letting up.

There was an eerie silence that filled the line before he finally cleared his throat.

“Can we talk?” he questioned.

“I think you said all you needed to last night, Adam.”

Another long pause.

“Please, baby. I’m fucking sorry. I just want to see you.”

“You act like I moved to Egypt or something. I’m literally ten feet from the clubhouse.”

“Yes, but our bed is so empty without you.”

My heart clenched, but I had to remember what he did to me—what he did to us. “So, ask Nina to join you.”

“Jesus fuck, are you ever going to let me live that down?”

His betrayal still stung. “No. Not as long as that bitch is in the picture. She’s got you for eighteen years, Adam. Eighteen fucking years.”

He sighed. “I’ll fix it. I promise. Please, Shasta, I just want to talk.”

Ramona shrugged her shoulders when she met my gaze. She knew, as much as I did, that saying no would only cause more problems.

“Fine,” I relented. “But it’s just talking, and we’re doing this on my terms.”

“Absolutely.” You could hear the smile in his voice, and it softened me. “Why don’t we go on a ride? I can take you on a picnic and—”

My stomach rolled at the idea of being alone with him away from the club. It seemed too dangerous. At least here I knew there were men who would protect me.

“My terms,” I reminded him. “We’ll meet in your office, and I want Sandman and Snyder stationed outside the door, just in case.”

I didn’t need to see him to know his jaw was tight and his fists were clenching. He was probably fucking raging right now.

“Why them?” he asked, his voice coming out like grit and venom.

“Because,” I said smugly. “They have the balls to stand up to you when no one else will.”

The line went silent again. Sabbath was probably stewing on that last comment and thinking about all the ways he could fillet their balls and fry them like oysters.

“Fine,” he growled. “I expect you in my office within the hour.” There was a long pause before he spoke again. “But if you think they’re going to be able to protect you from me, you’re sadly mistaken, Shasta. You’re my Ol’ Lady, and I already warned them if anyone ever stepped to me the way Sandman did last night again, I’d fucking shoot them dead.”

My stomach coiled with fear.
