“This. You and me. I can’t keep pretending like this is working when it’s clearly not.”
I frowned. “The only reason why it’s not working is because you refuse to commit.”
She looked at me in disgust.
“Commit to what, Jesse? Being a club whore? Or getting fucked by all your friends while you watch and laugh about it?”
My fists clenched. “You know I would never let anyone else touch you.”
She scoffed. “Bullshit. I know what these clubs are about. I know what goes on beyond the walls of this bedroom. I’ve seen it firsthand. I’ve watched girls stand at the pool table with their legs spread, just waiting for the train to come through. Don’t think I don’t know what you do behind my back. I’m not stupid.”
“If you think I’d fuck any woman besides you, then you’re beyond stupid.”
Her brow furrowed, creasing into a menacing scowl. “Like I believe you. If you think I’m going to bring—” her voice cutoff abruptly.
“Bring what?”
She finished pulling on her dress and turned to face me. “Nothing. It doesn’t matter. I’m not going to lower my standards just to fit in your world, Jesse. I’m better than that. I’m better than you.”
Her words were like daggers slicing through me. Every feeling I had for her died almost instantly. This wasn’t the first time she said something like that to me, but this time it felt different.
“Fuck you,” I growled, quickly getting up from the bed. “I’ve done nothing but love you since the day we met, Lindy, and you’re going to throw that love away because you think you’re too good for me—for my club? Well, there’s the door. Don’t let it hit you on your way out.”
She didn’t argue. She didn’t even try to fight for us, she just up and walked out of my life, and for the first time since I met her, I knew it was for good.
I shook the demoralizing memory from my head and finished putting on my clothes. I may not have Lindy anymore, but there was a woman out there that needed me, and I wasn’t going to let her down.
Snyder was already posted up outside Sabbath’s office, sitting against the wall with his arms crossed and his eyes shut. He looked deep in thought.
“You figure out what’s going on yet?” I questioned, posting myself up on the other wall beside him.
He shook his head. “No. Sabbath’s inside the office, but Shasta isn’t here yet.” He shot me a wary look. “Do you think she’s okay?”
I shrugged. “I think so. She wouldn’t have called us here otherwise.”
“True,” he said, nodding his head. “Very true.” A long sigh followed his words, and I could almost hear the pining in his voice. The man had it bad for the Prez’s Ol’ Lady, and I kinda felt for him. It sucked being in love with someone you couldn’t have.
A few minutes later, the clubhouse doors opened, and in waltzed the most stunning brunette to ever walk into our club. Shasta’s long locks were falling down her back, swaying over her tight little ass cheeks like a horse’s tail. I’ve never been more jealous of hair in all my life.
Her chocolate colored eyes drank me in, switching between me and Snyder like she was undressing us both.
I couldn’t help it, my dick hardened, wondering what it would be like to have that petite brunette bowed at my feet and taking every inch of me into her hot little mouth.
Shaking the thought from my head, I remembered that the last thing I wanted right now was sex with anyone.
As she passed by, her fingertips grazed my bicep, the same time she caressed Snyder’s, both of us putty in her hands.
Damn. Now I knew why Snyder and Clash were both so fucked up in the head. It was like this woman was a witch and I was under her love spell.
“Thanks for coming,” she whispered. “I feel safer with both of you here.” She kept on walking, so I opened Sabbath’s office door, then shut it after she was safely inside.
The second she was gone, my heart sank, and I shot Snyder a wary look, one he read perfectly.
“I know, Brother. God, do I know.”
He adjusted himself, then went back to standing against the wall, his head pressed against it, fading back into his roaming thoughts that I knew had to be about Shasta.
But I had to be strong.
