Other people around us in the stands echo my sentiments.
“I had my lucky charm in the stands.” Lucas takes my camera and tucks it into my bag. He lifts me, arms around my waist. “Couldn’t lose if I tried. Not when you were up here wearing my number. It looks good on you.”
“How’s it feel to play your last game?”
“Fucking awesome.” He tilts his head. “But I’ll still play for fun. As long as I don’t have to join an official team.”
He plans to hand over his position to the reserve player. When he told me, he said it was time to pass the torch for the championship game. He wants to give the chance to someone that works hard and has their heart in fighting for the win.
“How are you planning to celebrate?”
Lucas smirks. “First, this.”
He kisses me, the heat of it making me melt in his arms.
A camera phone shutter sounds in my ear. We part and find Devlin shaking his head with a wry expression.
“I’m updating your contact info in my phone. You’re both always fused at the face. It’s the photo I’ll show the police if you go missing.”
Lucas cocks his head. “Real funny.”
Connor snorts and wrangles Devlin. They head out with the other people flowing from the stands. Lucas picks up my bag and takes my hand, leading me back to the bench where he collects his things.
He tosses me a cheeky look.
“What is it?”
“I was just thinking how I was right.”
“About what?”
Lucas stops our trek toward the school. He pins me with a fierce look.
“I told you by Homecoming you’d be mine.”
I roll my eyes and shove at him playfully. Lucas gathers me to him and gives me a toe-curling kiss that makes my heart flutter.
He’s not wrong.
