“Like the luckiest girl alive, husband.” She grinned.
“Nah, I’m the lucky one.” He stared deep into her eyes, but only for a second, because then Zak grabbed his attention bypulling on his arm.
“Jayden. Jayden.”
“Hang on little guy, I’m kissing your mom.”
“But I need to ask you a question?”
“You do?”
Zak nodded earnestly.
“What?” Jayden released her and dropped down so he was face level with Zak.
“Can I call you Daddy now? Now that you’ve married my mom?”
Jayden glanced at Tammy.
“Up to you,” she said. It wasn’t something they’d discussed. Zak had put them on the spot.
“Do you want to call me Daddy?” Jayden asked Zak.
Zak nodded.
“In that case, it’s cool with me.” Jayden held out his hand. “Shake on it.”
Zak beamed and put his small hand in Jayden’s.
“Deal.”
“Deal.” Zak shook vigorously.
Jayden laughed. “Good shake!”
“Daddy.” Zak turned and pointed at the house. “Can we go and build a Harry Potter LEGOs castle?”
Jayden laughed. “Not right now. We’re gonna party, kid, we just got married. Tomorrow, okay?”
“Okay. Oh, look, there’s Caleb.” Zak raced off to Sarah, Caleb, and her husband Mike, a tall, thin architect who Tammy rarely saw.
“You okay with that?” Tammy asked.
“Kid needs a dad.” Jayden took her hand. “And I’d be proud to call him my son.” He quieted. “And let’s face it, his real father ain’t never coming back.”
Tammy drew in a deep breath. “I guess not.”
“Congratulations.” Suddenly, she was swept up in a hug, Brooklyn having drawn her close, the scent of her strong perfume filling Tammy’s nose.
“Thank you.” Tammy smiled and hugged her back.
“You make a very beautiful bride,” Brooklyn said.
“She certainly does.” Wyatt was grinning at her, baby Damon in his arms.
“I can take credit for the hair.” Belle was next to hug her.
Then Leah.
