“I heard that,” Wyatt said, unlocking the box on his bike.

“Hey, little guy. Can you go with your mom?” Jayden lifted Zak down from the lofty height. “I gotta talk to my buddy here.”

“Did you go to school together like me and Caleb?” Zak asked studying Wyatt.

“Yeah, we did. Same school you go to.”

“Wow.” Zak’s eyes widened. “Really?”

“Yep, but a long time ago.” Jayden nodded at Tammy. “Go in and have a snack, then we can play soccer on the beach.”

Tammy held out her hand. “This way, Zak.”

He ran toward her and into the house.

“Go wash your hands and face,” she called to him.

She didn’t know what Jayden and Wyatt needed to discuss, but she was pretty sure it wasn’t for children’s ears.

“This place is awesome,” Belle said, stepping in and taking off her leather jacket. “I mean, really. You’re literally a step from the beach, and all this space. We’re living in a one-room apartment. It’s up a set of steps. How am I gonna manage that with a stroller? And where the heck am I gonna put a crib?”

“When is the baby due?”

“Not until after Christmas, but I want to be organized, you know?”

“Of course. Drink?”

“Sparkling water if you have any?”

“Er, I’ve got still.”

“That’s cool, thanks.” She wandered to the kitchen and pointed at the corridor. “You got two bedrooms here?”

“Yes.”

“See, that’s what I need. A room for the crib.” She rubbed the small rise of her belly. “Wyatt is going to have to sort this out.”

“I’m sure he will.”

“He’ll have to. Because Leah has a house on the beach, and you’ve got this nice place—”

“For now. It’s temporary.”

She laughed. “It’s yours as long as you want it. Hudson won’t kick you out. He’s said often enough how glad he is to have you here.”

“He has?”

“Sure.” She smiled and took the water Tammy offered. “He’s a family man, and from what I’ve heard, you’re the only family outside of the club he’s got time for.”

Tammy let that information settle, then, “Zak, your sandwich is here when you want it.”

“Thanks, Mom,” he called from his bedroom.

“So what are they talking about out there?” Tammy asked, curiosity gnawing at her.

Belle glanced at the bedroom. “Shall we sit on the porch?”

“Sure.”
