She resisted the temptation to stamp her foot and instead clutched the towel closer to her chest. “Do you have any idea how monumentally pissed he’d be if he knew that we’d just…”

Wyatt tipped his head. “I really don’t care. You wanted it, I wanted it. Where’s the problem? I—”

Knock. Knock.

Belle spun to the door, her heart racing. “I have to get that before it’s kicked in.” She glared at Wyatt. “Please, just stay in here.” She shut the bedroom door, hiding Wyatt from view and hoping to hell he’d be quiet while she got rid of whoever was visiting her.

She rushed across the apartment, drips from her soaking hair running down her neck.

She pulled open the door, still gripping the front of the towel.

“What took you so long?” Rigor frowned at her.

“I was in the shower.”

His gaze took in her dripping hair and the towel.

“What do you want?” She pursed her lips and feigned a shiver, not that it was cold.

“We’re staying.” He glanced over her shoulder.

“What?” She moved to block his view of the room a little more.

“We’re staying here an extra night. I have stuff to do with Hudson and the guys.”

“Oh, okay.” Another night, damn it. That meant more time with Wyatt, who was, she now felt, a loose cannon when it came to her. “No problem.” She started to shut the door.

He put his hand on it. “You’re not mad?”

“No, why should I be?”

He studied her. “You usually get pissed when I tell you what we’re doing.”

“I guess I’m getting used to it.”

He was quiet for a moment and batted away a moth that was heading for the light above his head. “So what you gonna do?”

She shrugged. “I dunno, read, go to the beach, sleep.”

“Yeah, okay, you do that. Watch out for assholes. Any of them come sniffing and try to get in your panties, you tell me or Teddy and we’ll set them straight, okay?”

“I appreciate your brotherly concern, but I can look out for myself.” She shifted from one foot to the other and sent a silent prayer that Wyatt wouldn’t choose this moment to appear. “Goodnight, Rigor.”

He kind of grunted as she shut the door, blocking out his inquisitive eyes and the over-protective stern line of his lips.

She blew out a breath, turned, and leaned against it.

The bedroom door was still closed, but only for a second before Wyatt strode out. He didn’t look happy.

“What?” she asked.

“I’m not a fan of hiding in my own damn home.”

“I’m glad you did. When Pa got sent down, he told Rigor to look out for me, and he takes that seriously.”

“So you ain’t allowed no man in your life?” Wyatt jammed his hands on his hips. He’d pulled on a pair of faded jeans, but his tattooed upper half was still bare.

“No. Yes.” She sighed and stepped away from the door. “It’s complicated.”
