My body jerked upright away from the bike, the beast inside me clawing up. “What happened to her?”

“Oh fuck.”

“What happened?” I snarled. “Is she fucking all right?”

“Yeah, yeah. It’s just…” She filled me in on the notes and the bike. My fists and teeth clenched, and my blood simmered by the second as I listened.

She stared at me with a warning in her eyes. “You’re gonna do something stupid again, aren’t you?”

My demons played with my head. Yes, I wanted to hurt every bastard who thought they could mess with my ol’lady. But I knew if I did that again, Cameron would hate me forever. I was trying to win her back not lose her.

“Fuck!” Taking a deep breath, I tried to let go of my anger and pride for a minute. “No.” I shook my head, convincing myself before her. “Not this time.”

“Good.”

“All right. I’ll take care of the bike. If it’s finished by tonight, I’ll swing by and bring it to your place.” If I fixed things instead of destroying them, maybe Cammie would see that I was changing and give me a chance. “Could you do me this one favor and tell her I’ve moved to SLO?”

She cocked a brow at me. “Did ya?”

“Yes, and I’m not going anywhere.”

“But you’re still wearing your cut and patch.”

“There are some rules to lose those. I can’t just take them off and say bye-bye. There will be Church and a vote, and then an unceremonious slicing of my colors off my cut, usually followed by spit, curses and death threats.”

“That doesn’t sound pleasant.” She bit her lip on a smile.

“It’s the worst, but enough about the club.” I pleaded with my eyes. “Will you tell her? Pretty please.”

Her smile turned into a grin. “I can do that…or, maybe, I can go out for drinks around nine-ish and stupidly forget to lock the door sosomeoneeven stupider can show up and tell her himself?”

I’d crush her in a bear hug if Cammie didn’t get jealous of even those innocent hugs. I chuckled. “Muchstupider, yes.”

“Um-hum.”

“Thank you so much, Ash. You’re a really good friend.”

“And you’re trouble.” She spun and started back to campus. “Huge, hot, fucking gorgeous trouble.”

“I heard that.”

She flipped me off. “Don’t blow it.”

CHAPTER 11

Cameron

“Can I come with?” I asked Ash when she told me she was going out tonight.

“Uh…really?”

I shrugged. “Probably not a good idea, but I don’t want to be alone. Today has been more than stressful. I don’t want to spend the rest of it brooding or overthinking.”

Her lashes fluttered. “Yeah…sure.”

Why was she nervous all of a sudden? She’d been badgering me about going out, and now that I said yes, she didn’t want me to go? Maybe after the vandalism she was scared or didn’t want whoever she was going out with to see me with her. Or see me at all. Who would blame her? I was a walking hazard now.

“You know what? I changed my mind.” I spun toward my room. “I feel really tired. I shouldn’t be drinking anyway.”
