“My girl, I didn’t see you hiding over there.”
“Hey, Mom.”
I rushed forward and kissed the opposite cheek from the one Christopher had kissed. I wanted to wrap my arms around her and give her a hug, but I couldn’t without moving her and potentially causing her pain. Her right shoulder was bandaged, and the white gauze continued down her arm until it disappeared under the sheets.
“Who’s with you, sweetheart?”
Boone came up behind me, resting his palms on my waist and pulling me back against him.
“This is Boone, Mom.”
“Hello there, Boone. It’s lovely to meet you, even if the timing isn’t the best.”
“Evenin’, ma’am.”
He didn’t say anything more. Poor man was probably looking to escape by now. Our first sort-of date, and it ended with him getting to meet my whole family and deal with medical drama. Fun times, right there.
I prayed it wouldn’t scare him off.
