With that, I stalked out of the guest room, intent on finding the bastard who had hurt my female.

And proving to her that she was no longer a prisoner, even if she couldn’t cut my heart from my chest like she wanted to.

Chapter6

Akari

The bed was really comfortable.

There was nothing to do, but I knew I was no longer trapped, despite the lie I’d told Espen. I could’ve already slipped out of the castle and been lost in the forest, far away from the bastard fate had assigned me to.

But there was nothing for me outside Espen’s castle.

I’d either figure out a way to kill him, and die with him.

Or I’d…

Well, I didn’t know what the alternative was. But I didn’t want to know, either, so I just left it at that.

I’d find a way to kill him, and we’d die together.

That was that.

I lounged in the bed for a bit, until there was a knock at the door.

Assuming it was one of the few people I knew, none of whom I had any desire to talk to in the moment, I ignored it. The only person I wouldn’t ignore was Diora, and she would call out for me if I didn’t answer.

“Queen Akari?” A female voice called out.

What the fuck?

I was definitely not a queen.

Another knock sounded, and the voice repeated, “Queen Akari, your king hunted me down in the market and asked me to come up here and alter some clothing to fit you. Is this a good time, or should I come back later?”

He did what?

Holy shit.

This man was determined to remove the wall I’d put up between us, apparently.

I wanted to reject his advances—but I did need clothes.

Wearing actual clothes wouldn’t make him think I was accepting him, would it?

I decided it wouldn’t, and if it did, I’d just tell him to take a hike.

I slipped out of bed and strode across the room. Random strands of hair fell off my pants-shirt as I walked, but I didn’t give a damn.

The door opened, and I found a small, proper-looking fae woman waiting outside. She took one look at my clothing, and her expression grew aghast. “Are those pants?”

“Yes.” I stepped back and opened the door wider. Her disdain grew as she took in the room, including the disgustingly-dirty pile of clothing on the floor that was ready to be washed.

I wasn’t going to apologize for just being released from the prison, though. She could be disgusted with Espen for that.

“Let’s do this in the hallway,” the woman said, gesturing out of the room.

I definitely wasn’t going to protest that, as long as she didn’t ask me to get naked.
