“Yeah?”

“You should probably give Uncle Hudson a call.”

A tiny V formed between Jethro’s brows. “What for?”

“Well, I’m pretty sure my water just broke so he and Uncle Ian should probably get ready to come over.”

Ian was going to take care of the doggies and Hudson was going to be her unofficial doula. So while Sable was nervous, she knew she’d be very well taken care of. And the way Jethro’s face sparked with a beat of shock but soon melted into a warm expression of delight was comforting.

Yes, things were going to change very, very soon, but the most important things were going to stay the same. Another perfect Christmas gift.

A Father and a Daddy Walk Into a Bar

A Saoirse’s Stepfather Daddy Short Story

Please note that this is bonus content, and can best be enjoyed after readingSaoirse’s Stepfather Daddy!

Chapter One

Eighteen Months After Saoirse’s Stepfather Daddy Takes Place

Saoirse had done it. It hadn’t been easy but she was as tenacious as a bulldog and just as fierce. She made it through her third year of law school and had sat for the bar a few days ago. With yes, some help, but Arthur was well aware he wasn’t the one doing the hard work. Mostly he made sure she was eating healthy food, getting enough sleep and rest, and was staying hydrated.

She was taking a nap now in a blanket fort they’d made in the den off the kitchen. Usually she’d nap in her crib, but she’d been clingy and needy this week and couldn’t stand to be more than a room away from him. While Arthur would’ve made himself suffer through her absence when he felt a keen need to watch over her at all hours if she wanted some space, he wouldn’t make her endure the same thing.

He loved his job, he loved to be out on the golf course, he loved driving his car, but he didn’t think anything had ever made him happier than looking after Saoirse. He looked up from the butternut squash ravioli he was making for dinner to see his little darling starting to stir.

Still with her paci in her mouth, still holding Ziggy tight against her chest, and still curled under the weighted minky blanket he’d tucked her under. She was the sweetest spitfire he’d ever seen.

It would take her a few minutes to fully wake—he’d watched her do it a hundred times when they slept together in his bed. The flutter of dark lashes, the switch from her soft snoring to breathy huffs, the way she tossed her head and nuzzled into her pillow as if to chase sleep. Adorable.

When she rubbed her eyes, he washed off his hands and went to sit beside her, soothing her into wakefullness by rubbing her back.

“Hey, sleepy girl. Did you have a good nap?”

She nodded, still looking sleep-soft and like she could go back to dreamland any second. That was fine, she could sleep as long as she liked. Of course he liked spending time with her—talking to her, watching her color and play, but he also liked seeing her get some well-deserved rest.

He did have something to ask her though.

“You're finished the bar, princess. You’ve worked so hard and you’ve been so tough. Do you remember Daddy promised you a treat when you were done?”

Saoirse perked up at mention of a treat and nodded. If someone would’ve asked him two years ago if Saoirse would ever willingly take a paci never mind dislike giving it up, he would’ve seriously doubted that person’s sanity, and yet here they were.

“I was wondering if you felt up to going to the club. I’ve been a member at Hive for a long time and I can guarantee that it’s clean and safe and private. But if you’d rather not tonight or ever, that’s fine. Public play isn’t for everyone.”

Saoirse blinked at him with those big blue eyes of hers and then took her paci out, letting it dangle from the clip attached to her onesie.

“Like, as a little?”

“If you want,” Arthur said. “Or we can do other types of play. But I checked with some of the members who are daddies and several of them will be there with their littles tonight. And Jethro and Sable will be there. So if you wanted to be little, you won’t be the only one. They have a nursery with some toys and coloring books—since there will be a bunch of littles there, there would probably be story time.”
