“We’re going to play it by ear,” Ryan said. “When he gets back later this morning from Disney, Tinsley and I are going to spend some time with him. If it feels right, we’ll talk to him. We don’t need to rush it. It just needs to feel right.”
“That’s awesome but are you sure you want us all there tonight? It’s kinda a big deal,” I wondered.
Tinsley spoke up as she handed me a cup of coffee. “Kai, I meant what I said last night about each of you. My world doesn’t feel right without all of you in it. Ryan may be Lucas’ father, but I want each of you in his life.”
And Ryan followed, “Kai man, you know the number my dad did on me. I know I’m going to be a great dad to Lucas, but think of how much having all of you in his life can do for him. The relationships between all of us can only make him stronger, smarter and more confident.”
“So, I guess what we’re asking,” Tinsley said tentatively. “Do you want to be part of our family too?”
I stood for a minute in stunned silence. Lucas was such an amazing kid. I had found myself jealous since I’d found out that Ryan was his dad and that he got to be in his life in such a special way. And now, here they were asking me to be a part of this special family too.
