“Here ya go, boss.”
“Thanks.” I gulped the cold liquid while trying to ignore my tingling hands. They ached to touch Eve.
She avoided making eye contact, looking everywhere but at me. It hurt. It fucking burned me, but I sensed it pained Eve just as much to continue pretending I meant nothing more to her than the rest of the Knights.
Clapping and whistling filled the air when the song ended. I willed Eve to come to me or acknowledge me in some fashion.
Come to me, sweetness, come.
If she came, it would mean she really loved me. How could I test her when she was oblivious to my stupid game?
Eve laughed with Jaynee as they went to their table. Several of my MC brothers were there with their old ladies. My woman was the only single person among the couples. She still hadn’t glanced my way, but she had to have seen me enter the bar.
I turned away from Eve and braced my elbows at the bar. Why ogle her and torture myself?
“Get you another beer, Art?” Hollywood tossed a white towel into the bin under the counter, then grabbed a fresh one.
“No, thanks. Think I’m going to head up to my room.” I finished my beer.
“It’s early still.” He checked the digital clock hanging on the mirrored wall behind the bar. “It’s just after eight.”
“I have a raging migraine. A symptom from the concussion I got last month.”
“Damn, that sucks. Maybe grab a cup of coffee. Caffeine helps with migraines.”
“Good idea. See ya later.” I strolled out of the bar and went straight to my room. Hollywood was probably right about coffee helping with a migraine, and if I had one, I would’ve gone to the kitchen to get me a cup.
What afflicted me couldn’t be made better by a simple cup of joe.
Life in the Knight’s Legion MC would suck balls if nothing changed between Eve and me. If that was the case, maybe I could transfer to the Montana chapter once it was up and running. I sure as hell didn’t want to stick around here if I couldn’t be with Eve.

Not cool. It was only sixty degrees today. How could she wear denim shorts… that were way too fucking short? They were rough around the edges like she’d cut up a pair of jeans and left strings hanging down her toned thighs. Maddy had called it fringe when Storm noticed that she was wearing too-short shorts. He hadn’t cared what it was named as he threw her over his shoulder and carried her upstairs to teach her a lesson about modesty. It’d been a fucking hot scene.
I snapped my eyes shut when I caught myself raking my gaze up and down Brynne’s fantastic body and licking my lips.
Stop it! She’s your sister.
Only by marriage.
She’s Tina’s daughter.
Right.
I shifted in my chair to get myself under control and immersed myself in one of Cash’s textbooks as more students entered the dining hall for the breakfast buffet. I’d taken up watching Brynne after Cash went to Minnesota. Espada couldn’t do it because of his age, thirty-four. Not that older people couldn’t go to college, but Espada would stand out like a sore thumb with the club’s logo tattooed on the side of his neck. He was a biker through and through and could never go undercover as a college student.
Ryder was the perfect age, but the prospect was still wet behind the ears. It was too risky putting him to guard Brynne, so the job fell on me.
Except I felt like a stalker more than a bodyguard. All week I lurked in the shadows, trying to blend into my surroundings as if I belonged on campus. I wore the same two UM hoodies and cleaned up my overall appearance to not look like a biker.
I had to admit, I was the hottest college dude around.
And the females noticed me, drooled over me like I was the best eye candy they’d ever seen. They outnumbered the males: three to one. But I ignored them, staying focused on my job protecting Brynne. Not one of the chicks could ever tempt me. Not when…
I returned my attention to beautiful Brynne across the room, and panic speared through my chest. She’d left her table while I was lost in my thoughts.
