“See what through?”
“Ire’s memory loss. I can’t lose him, so I’ll just have to accept him the way he is.” What other choice did I have? Down deep, wasn’t he still the man I loved?
“Even if that means dealing with a rough version?”
“Yes,” I said confidently. Although, what did Boxer mean by rough version? “I need to go.” I didn’t wait for a reply. He probably thought I was an idiot for keeping the most traumatizing event in my life a secret from Drew. Boxer had no idea how it would destroy me to not have Drew in my life.
I couldn’t risk it. I couldn’t tell Drew I was a damaged woman.
It was a small miracle that I’d made it through the clubhouse and into the family unit without running into anyone else. I needed to be alone to gather my thoughts. When I saw Drew next, I had to be in the right mindset to not freak out at the littlest thing, like his harsh tone or the desire in his eyes when he looked at me. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d had a boner when I ran out of the room. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the possibility.
“Ava?”
I screwed up my face hearing Nana’s voice. “Yeah, it’s me.”
“How’s Drew?”
“Better. He’s in his bedroom now.”
Her face brightened. “Does he remember you?”
“No.” I slumped onto the sofa. When I’d left earlier, she had been asleep. I didn’t want tension between us. I’d try to smooth things over with her. “He only remembers who he is but nothing since he joined the MC.”
“Well, he will in time.” She paused her show. “I’m ready to go home.”
“I don’t think it’s possible. The club is on lockdown.”
“I don’t care. We have nothing to do with it.” She lifted herself out of the chair. “I’ll pack. I don’t feel comfortable here.”
“Please, Nana. Drew wouldn’t want us to leave.”
She waved me off. “Drew isn’t here.”
I rubbed my temples. She’d lasted longer than I’d expected. Our fallout had probably prompted her to want to leave.Great going, Ava.“I’ll talk to Storm in a little bit.”
“I want to be home by supper.”
I threw my head back on the sofa.
Stubborn old bird.
When I left the suite an hour later, I saw Sugar loading a suitcase into the back of a car. “Hey, going somewhere?”
“Yes. Markey and I are leaving town for a short while.” She closed the trunk. “How are you?”
“I’ve been better. Is the lockdown over?” The parking lot was still filled with bikes and trucks.
“No. Lockdown hasn’t been lifted.”
“But you’re leaving.”
Sugar tilted her head. “Yes, I am. It’s personal.”
“Oh, you don’t have to tell me the details. Nana asked about going home.”
“I don’t think Storm will let you.”
A few guys straddling Harleys caught our attention.
