Jaynee
I never saw her squeal and giggle so much until he entered our lives. Zander had been pushing her on the swing for fifteen minutes, and her smile hadn’t faded.
He made us both happy when he was around.
But something was different about him since the kiss in his office.
Like today. We went out to lunch like we had the last couple of days, but Zander sat opposite me beside Sadie. It made me jealous, which was ridiculous.
I wanted to know why he avoided being close to me. Why hadn’t he kissed me again?
He trotted over and dropped onto the blanket I was sitting on.
“She has the energy of a dozen preschoolers.” He breathed heavily on his back.
Kiss him, Jay, kiss him.
I wanted to, but I wouldn’t.
“You do all right keeping up with her.”
“She wears me out.”
I snorted. “I bet she’s not the first girl to do that.” Holy crap. Did I really say that?
He rolled onto his side, propping his head in his hand. “Do you want to wear me out, Jay?” His tone was teasing. He wasn’t serious, but I wanted him to be.
“Oh please. In your dreams.”
He laughed. “You’d go blind if you saw what’s in my dreams.”
My face heated. “Don’t be crude.”
“You brought it up.”
“Well, I apologize.” I stared at Sadie happily sliding down the slide, then down at his cut. He wore it every time I saw him. I had to admit he looked mighty fine in it.
“Do you like it?” He tugged on the collar.
I shrugged. “It’s okay. You’ve been wearing it all the time.”
“That’s part of being in the club. If we go into a different territory, we sometimes take it off.”
“Hmm. Well, it’s kind of nice. You know, good quality.”
He grinned. “Do you want to know what it’s made of?”
I leaned in closer, sniffing it. “Smells like leather.”
He pinched my chin and moved it so that I was face to face with him. “No. Bad-ass boyfriend material.”
I tossed my head back, laughing. “You are too much. And the cockiest man I’ve ever met.” I giggled some more. “Bad-ass boyfriend material… That’s a good one.”
“You have a great laugh.” He dragged his thumb down my cheek.
Okay, he was getting my engine going again. “Do you have any brothers or sisters?”
