Nah. This was Sugar and Maddy, two very vocal and big-hearted women. They would’ve pestered me about Jaynee regardless.
“You should’ve turned on the charm.” Maddy jiggled Birdie’s hand. “No woman can resist you, Lynx.”
“Angel,” Storm said in a warning tone. My brother was possessive as hell. I often wondered if I’d be the same about my woman. I doubted it.
“Except me, of course.” Maddy kissed Storm’s head.
“You haven’t texted Jaynee this morning?” Sugar asked.
“No. We parted ways last night, like I told you on the way home.”
“Hmm.” Sugar didn’t seem convinced.
“Good.” Storm stood with Birdie in his arms. “We don’t need any drama around here.”
“Where you going?” Maddy asked Storm.
“To my office.”
“With Birdie?”
“Yep.” He stalked out of the kitchen.
Maddy rolled her eyes. “He’s such a baby hog.” She turned her attention to me. “You need to text Jaynee. The Cities is huge. She doesn’t know her way around it. Like the parts to avoid.”
Maddy had a good point. I just assumed Jaynee would stay near the hotel.
I bit into the cinnamon roll. “Mmm. So damn good, Sugar.”
“Was she a looker?” Track waggled his brows. “Single moms don’t scare me.”
I chewed my mouthful, then pushed my plate away. I wasn’t hungry anymore. The cinnamony sweetness in my mouth turned bitter. “Yeah, she was pretty, but she’s not staying in Minnesota.”
“Bummer.” Track drained his mug. “I’m out. Ladies, thank you for breakfast.”
“You’re welcome,” Sugar and Maddy said in unison.
“Don’t forget about the kitten interviews at one,” I told him.
Track shot me a stupid grin. “No way. That’s the highlight of my day.” He threw up a hand as he left.
“He’s so cute.” Maddy laughed.
“Don’t let boss man hear you say that, or you’re likely to get a spanking,” I said teasingly.
Maddy cocked her head. “Maybe I want him to hear me for that very reason.”
My eyebrows shot up. “Damn, Angel. You’re a naughty mommy.”
“Sure am. Having a baby doesn’t change everything.” Mrs. Sassy Attitude averted her baby blues away when the apples of her cheeks turned pink. It was adorable how she got embarrassed and tried to hide it.
“I’m out too.” Ire stood, grabbing his plate and mug. “Thanks, Angel and Sugar.”
“You’re welcome, hon. Hey, did you get my email?” Sugar asked.
Email? Why was Sugar emailing Ire? Weird.
Ire’s face flushed. “Um, yeah. Thanks. See ya at one, brother.” He set his dishes in the sink and rushed out of the kitchen.
