She pulled back, taking my face between her hands, and brushed her thumbs over my beard. My heart raced with anticipation. I didn’t want to push myself on her, but I was desperate for a real kiss. She claimed my lips. I let her have her way for once. Her small tongue curled with mine, drawing out moans from both of us.
Madeline broke away much too soon. She needed to see what happened with Carla in the room. I felt her hesitation. It would resolve the minute she knew I was still hers.
“Your secret is safe with me, I promise. Crying doesn’t make you weak.” She pressed her forehead to mine. “My heart hurts, seeing you so miserable. The bed is a crumpled mess because you thrashed all night.”
“I couldn’t get comfortable. I missed the fuck out of you. If you don’t want to see me miserable, then don’t ever leave me.”
“Kaleb…” she breathed out my name. “I believe you, but I just… I need—”
“I know. You just need to see for yourself. I get it. I want to see what the bitch was doing in our room.”
We got to the footage of Carla. It was after two in the afternoon. I hadn’t been in our bedroom since before 8:00 a.m.
Fuckin’ Carla had picked the lock like a pro. I knew I hadn’t left it unlocked. I never forgot to secure it.
Carla snooped through our drawers, ripped holes in some of Madeline’s panties, stuffing them back into the drawer and sniffed my shirts. What a nutjob.
“Jesus…” Rage exploded in my chest when the crazy bitch took her shorts and tank top off and rolled around in our bed in her bra and panties. She got herself off, humping my pillow and crying out my goddamned road name.
“Turn it off.” Madeline shuddered in my arms. “I’m going to be sick.” She held her stomach, drawing in large amounts of air and blowing it out.
I reached for the trash can beside my desk, in case she threw up. “I’m sorry, Madeline.”
“No, you didn’t do anything. It’s obvious the video isn’t fake. She’s wearing the same bra and panties I saw her in. I believe you.” She clasped her hands in her lap. “I’m the one who’s sorry. I should’ve trusted you. It’s just when I found her…” She dropped her head, shaking it.
“Look at me.” I lifted her chin, putting us eye to eye. “I get it. I see how it looked real to you. For that, I’m sorry.”
She giggled a little. “Look at us both apologizing when neither of us did anything wrong. It’s all Carla’s fault.”
“Yeah, well, I want to get to the part where you beat the shit out of her.” I couldn’t imagine my sweet girl in a catfight. I needed to see it for myself.
“Oh, God.” She buried her face in her hands. “I lost it, Kaleb. I really lost it.”
I scrolled through the footage. Carla even cracked the door open after she was finished masturbating on the bed. Like she was hoping Madeline would find her. Sure as shit, Madeline called my name when she thought I was in the bathroom. Carla walked out with a smirk on her face.
As I watched it all unfold, Madeline hid her face in the crook of my neck. I understood why she couldn’t watch it. To her, it was a low moment of losing her cool. She wasn’t proud of it, but I was fuckin’proud.Mywoman kicked Carla’s ass.
I exited out of the app, logging off of my computer. I rubbed my hand up and down Madeline’s back. “Finished.”
“I need you, Kaleb Knight. I want you to make love to me, but our bed—” She trailed off.
“It disgusts me too. Tomorrow we’ll buy a new mattress.”
“Really?” Her face brightened.
“Hell yeah. Tonight, we can stay in the room you were in.” Going to a nice hotel wasn’t an option with the Hunters still around.
“How are we going to sleep on a twin bed? You wouldn’t even fit on it alone.”
I chuckled, squeezing her ass. “I didn’t say sleep. I said stay in. Tonight, we’re having all night make up sex.” I wiggled my brows.
Madeline threw her head back, laughing. Her voice was hoarse and sexy at the same time. “Shouldn’t we talk about what happened last night? You found out I’m little, gangly Maddy Hamilton. You know, the one who used to annoy you.”
“You never annoyed me. And Angel, there ain’t nothing gangly about you.” I kissed her nose. “What about you? What I did to Tommy.” The muscles in my neck coiled as I feared her reaction. All this time we’d been together, loving each other, and I’d been the one who shattered her perfect little family. I’d broken my Angel’s heart. “Sure, you want to be with me?”
“Jesus, Kaleb. You didn’t kill my brother. Toby assured me it was an accident. Yes, what both of you did was wrong. But you didn’t mean to hurt him.”
“I swear to you, I never wanted him to get hurt. I’m so sorry, my little firecracker.” I ran my thumb along the curve of her jaw.
