“Fuck! Donotget off the phone with me. Do you hear me, Madeline?”
“Y... yes.” I gripped my cell phone tightly in my hand like it was a lifeline to Storm.
“What are you girls up to today? We’re looking for some tour guides.” This guy wasn’t bad-looking. Tall, dark hair and eyes, tan skin like he spent his days shirtless in the sun and white, straight teeth. Steph was blushing. But Kim? She had a deep crease in her brow.
“Sorry, we’re not interested,” Tara said in her smart-ass voice. “Move along.” My snarky friend’s mouth often ran away with her.
“I’m sure I can get you interested,” the biker growled.
“Breathe, Angel. I’m here.” His husky voice soothed my anxiety.
I exhaled the air I hadn’t realized I’d been holding in my lungs. “N… no you’re nothere…”
“You.” The attractive Hunter pointed at me. Enforcer was on his patch. “It’s rude to talk on the phone when you have a guest.”
“Um, it’s my… My…”
“Dad. Say, Dad.” The edge in Storm’s voice made me more nervous.
“My... my dad. It’s our… our daily call.” I swallowed. “I’m here, Daddy.”
“Breathe, Angel. I can hear the trembling in your voice.” Storm never missed a beat. This man had a way of comforting me as if it was second nature. So unlike what I’d expect from an outlaw biker.
“Tell yo daddy you need to go so I can give my speech all at once.” The enforcer furrowed his brow, an expectant glint in his dark eyes.
“Daddy, I need to…”
“Do not hang up this phone, Madeline. Fuck, where are Hero and Wolf?” I heard a crash on the other line.
The entrance bell jingled, and the Hunter’s expression turned grim.
“Can we help you with something?” Twohugemen approached our booth. Both looked a little taller than Storm. These guys had muscles for miles; both had dark hair and eyes. One appeared to be Russian, maybe, while the other looked Latino. They towered over the three Hunters, looking deadly.
“You’re in Knight’s Legion territory. Something we can help you with?” the Latino asked. Not sure if he was Hero or Wolf.
“They there?” Storm asked.
“Mhm…”
“Not looking for any trouble, man. Just enjoying a cup of coffee,” the Hunter’s enforcer said.
“Let’s take it outside and leave the patrons alone.” The Knight doing all the talking jerked his head toward the door.
“We don’t want trouble. Just talking to these nice ladies on this sunny Independence Day. Right, girls?” The Hunter smiled, showing off his pearly white teeth.
“Told you, we aren’t interested,” Tara said with a sneer. The Latino Knight cut his eyes to her. He didn’t say anything for an intense couple of seconds.
“Sounds likeRojahas spoken. We’ll follow you boys out.” He turned enough so I could catch a glimpse of the patch on his cut: Sergeant at Arms.
I looked at Tara. The SAA certainly was attractive, but Tara didn’t appear to notice.
The Hunter leered at me, as if singling me out. “What about you, sweet thang. Does Roja speak for you, too?”
I had a feeling Storm was going out of his mind right now, though he was quiet. “Sorry, I—”
“Madeline, everything okay here?” The sound of Dane’s voice behind me turned my blood cold.
Shit, this couldn’t be happening. I didn’t need my ex here on top of everything else.
