Letting her sleep, I left her in the security of my room while I headed back downstairs to see how the day was progressing. There was a lot to be done before we left for Italy in two days, and I needed to make sure everything was taken care of.
Since I was taking Salvatore and Antonio with me, that meant that Lorenzo would be left in charge. Looking for my brother, I found him in the living room, lounging on the couch while watching some football game.
Lorenzo wasn’t like Sal or Antonio. Lorenzo was driven by his desires and lacked the drive to see anything through. He’d gone to college to become a doctor, only to quit mid-way through his studies. He volunteered at a local Fire Station as their on-call paramedic to pass the time, but lately, he’d become the playboy of the family.
Like Illyria, Lorenzo was constantly in the papers, and the paparazzi loved photographing him. The only thing he truly cared about was Luciano, his twin, and the family, but even we came in second to Luciano.
“Who’s winning?” I asked, sitting down next to him.
“Don’t care.”
“Then why are you watching the game?”
“Bored,” he replied, typing something into his phone.
“I’m sure there is something that needs to be done.”
“Um-hmm…and it’s getting done.”
“Are you okay taking care of everything until I get back?”
“Yep.”
“You will keep an eye on Illyria and Mother too.”
“Yes.”
“Have you heard from Luc?”
“Not today.”
“Can you please put down the phone for two minutes?”
Lorenzo sighed and did as I asked.
“Thank you,” I sighed. “We should be gone for three days. The meeting will take place on the second day. I will need you by the phone in case I call. Marko and Enzo will help you with anything I might need. If all goes well, we will return immediately, and then preparations will need to be made for the wedding.”
“What if they don’t agree?”
“Then Layla and I will be married here in Chicago as soon as possible.”
“What do you want me to do about Giuseppe?”
“He knows to contact Marko when Demarco is found. If that happens while I am away, you only need to verify that it is Angelo. Giuseppe will handle things until I return.”
“What about the benefit?”
“I should be back before then. Get with the cousins and help mother and Aunt Daniella as best you can. Generally, they will have everything under control, but if they need anything, make sure they get it. I’ve talked with Marko, and he has asked Vittorio and Eduardo to update the security system, so they will be moving about the compound while I am gone.”
“Got it,” Lorenzo said, nodding.
Getting to my feet, I went in search of Sal only to find him, Antonio, and Reaper in my office. All three of them stopped talking when they spotted me. Narrowing my eyes, I looked at Sal, who stared directly at me. “What?”
“We need to hold a family meeting.”
“Why?”
“Because I just got a text from Sypher. He found where Catarina was being held.”
