“Shadow, can you take Becca? I need to go brief Reaper.”

“Sorry, bro,” Shadow said, carrying a large box as he walked towards one of the storage closets. “I’m helping Player right now. See if Grimm can take her.”

Sighing, I looked down at my beautiful daughter and smiled. “Guess it’s just you and me today, Angel. Wanna go with me to talk to Uncle Reaper?”

Becca nodded her head, raising her arms, wanting me to pick her up.

Doing so, I gathered my phone, and together we headed for church.

Seeing that Reaper and Healer were talking, I opened the door and walked in. I hated interrupting Reaper when he was with Healer, but the quicker I gave him the daily report, the faster he could go back to his conversation. Closing the door behind me, I put Rebekah down, and she immediately latched on to my leg.

Smiling down at her, I looked at Reaper and said, “Phantom said she’d have an update later today. I’ve got the prospects, Billy, and Jake, doing shitter duty, Ink has clients lined up today, and Savage needs two drivers to help with repos. I sent Axel and Bayou to help him. Chaos called and said the club needs a new bartender. He had to fire William for fucking one of the dancers. Smoke said whenever you are ready to break ground on the new housing project, we can. He finally got the permits from the city. Also, the mayor called and said that this year’s fall festival needs more volunteers. He wants to know if you could spare some of the brothers to help run the booths and such? As for the rest of them, everyone is at their respective jobs, minus the four that went with Remi to the salon.”

“Sounds good. Have everyone here for church at five. Anyone late can help the prospects for the rest of the week.”

I nodded and sent out the mass text immediately. When I was done, I picked up my daughter and left, leaving Reaper alone with Healer once more.

Walking back into the common room, I sat on one of the many couches and tickled her. Her laughter filled the space around me, like music to my ears. God, I loved hearing her laugh. Becca was such a tiny thing, and I absolutely adored her. She was my reason for living, breathing, existing. Everything I did now, I thought of her first. How it would affect her, good or bad. She was my world.

“So, what are we going to do today, Angel?”

She shrugged her shoulders, playing with my cut in her little fingers. “Ice cream?”

“We did that yesterday.”

“Go fish?”

“No way. You beat me three times already.”

“Nut uh daddy. Uncle Shadow beat you too.”

Chuckling, I nodded, “Yeah, he did.”

God, I loved my daughter. She was intelligent, beautiful, perfect in every way. She had her mother's intellect, sharp wit, and beautiful face, but she had my eyes and dark hair. She was the perfect mix of both of us.

“I am not. I’m honest!”

Rolling my eyes, I looked at my daughter, who grinned brightly.

“Sounds like Momma’s home.”

“Momma!”

I was about to stand with Becca in my arms when I heard Max shout, “Incoming!”

Diving for the floor, my daughter in my arms, I covered her immediately.

Instantly loud pops started hitting the front of the clubhouse, breaking through the wood siding, shattering the glass windows as brothers ducked for cover. I watched as Shadow crawled over to me, helping me to give Becca more cover. I saw Grimm, pinned down in the corner, reaching for his gun. Bullets pierced and pinged all around me. Brothers were shouting as they pulled guns out and started firing back.

In that next instant, a loud explosion rocked the clubhouse, making me hold my daughter tighter to me. I could hear her crying. I could feel her little fingers digging into my chest. I wanted so much to make this go away from her. No child should ever have to be a part of something so villainous, and when I got my hands on the mother fucker for scaring my daughter, I was going to gut the bastard. And then, just as fast as it started, it stopped.

I could hear brothers moaning while others cursed.

Looking down at my daughter, I saw the fear in her eyes, wet with her tears. My heart shattered into a million pieces. I never wanted to see that look from her again. Ever.
