“This attitude you’re cutting with me is getting tired fast. No wonder Fisher cut out on you. Probably froze him out too.”

His words slice into me like the blades of a million knives. My bottom lip trembles as I fight the tears threatening to spill.

“Shit, Freya. I didn’t mean it.”

“Please go.” He steps toward me, and I take a step back. “Don’t get any closer.”

“Babe,” he starts, and I turn my head as the first tear falls.

“I fucked up. I shouldn’t have said that.”

“No, you shouldn’t have.”

“You gotta give me something here.”

“I want you to leave and when you come back, I promise that you won’t see me around here anymore.”

“Jesus, what the fuck did I do god damn it?”

“You seriously expect me to believe you don’t know? You may be good in bed, Death, but you fucking suck at everything else.” I swipe my cheek and he shakes his head.

“I don’t need this shit.”

“Good then go. Nothing is stopping you. Certainly not me.”

“Fuck it.” He stomps out and I lean into the wall and drop to the floor.

“Thank fuck you’re here.” Yara yanks me into the bathroom with her and closes the door. “Nan is driving me nuts. She almost flicked her cigarette ashes in the mashed potatoes.”

I scrunch my nose and make a sour face. It’s no surprise the woman is getting old and she’s stubborn as can be. A trait I seem to have inherited.

“Wait a minute. There’s something different about you.” She eyes me suspiciously giving me a once over. “Turn around.” She motions her hand expecting me to comply.

“What? No.”

“Lift your hair.” She grabs my hair as I pull away.

“Get off you weirdo.”

She sniffs at me. “You smell like a man. You’ve had sex,” she hisses.

“You’re crazy. I’ve been stuffed into my car with our father for two hours.”

“Did he also give you this?” she yanks on the shoulder of my sweater exposing the bruise coloring my skin from Death.

I slap at her hands. “I bumped into a cabinet. Stop that.”

“There’s teeth marks, you big slut. Who was he?”

“You’re crazy.”

“You’re smiling. Practically glowing.”

“Fine. I’ll tell you about it later. But you had better swear to keep your mouth shut.”

She makes a motion of locking her lips and throwing away the key.

Once we get out of the bathroom I set to hanging with my niece and my nephew, doing everything within my power to avoid my sister and praying she forgets all about my personal life including seating myself at the kiddie table. Sorin and Luna, my sister named them after the sun and the moon. Both look like they crawled straight out of Whiskey’s ass. Golden blonde hair which I admit they could get from Yara but hers is more of a wheat shade. They have their father’s rounded face whereas Yara has more of a heart shape and pointy chin. They inherited his greyish blue eyes too. Spoiled absolutely rotten by us all. Even my bitch of a mother isn’t immune to their charm.
