Chapter 19

Stormy

Icouldn’t slow mybreathing. I wanted to. Not only for my sake, but I can tell Gambit was freaking the fuck out. My mind kept repeating all the odd things over the week. Every object that was moved. Ty was in my house. He’s been in my house for a week. Oh Goddess! He’s here to kill me, or worse. Yes, there are much worse things when it comes to Tyler Barnes III. Visions of the blade he held in his hand danced before my eyes. I was so scared. I decided I’d rather die than let him rape me.

It wouldn’t be once, not with Ty. He told me what he had planned for me. Now that he found me, I had to get away. There had to be somewhere I could hide. Terror took over my thoughts and I struggled to get away from the hands that held me. I had to get away or Ty would find me. He would get me and do all those things he promised.

“Stormy.”

I heard the voice through my panic.

“Bébé,” Gambit’s voice pierces through the haze and I fight the panic enough to surface. A man I’ve never met stands beside Gambit. First thing I notice was he was wearing a leather cut. My eyes automatically went to his chest, looking for a name. Doc.

“Are you a doctor?” I mumble. My inquisitiveness is taking over enough to help calm me. I blame it on writing. Meow. And just like that, the fear pours back in and I fight to take a breath.

“I am.”

His voice reminded me of Gambit’s dad, Armand. I tried to focus on his face and push the tide of fear back. He wore a dark ball cap with the bill on the back of his head, leaving his face clear. His sienna brown eyes were filled with concern.

“Stormy, have you had a panic attack before?” Doc asked.

I nodded yes, still struggling to calm my breathing. There had to be a fucking elephant sitting on my chest. I couldn’t breathe.

“Did a doctor give you medication for them?”

I nodded again, starting to feel trapped by my body. My chest heaved, trying to catch a breath. Fear still raced through me.You’re okay. Everything is okay. Breathe. Just breathe.None of my usual tricks worked.

“Are you on anything now?”

I shook my head. Doc reached into his pocket and pulled out a prescription bottle. He unscrewed the cap before tapping a pill into the palm of his hand.

“Do you have any allergies?”

When I shook my head no, he told them to get me a drink. Papa returned seconds later with a bottle of water. He twisted off the cap and handed it to me. Doc handed me a pill.

“Take this, darlin’.”

I took the pill, swallowing it in between ragged breaths. Gambit came around to kneel directly in front of me, while Doc moved to the side. He didn’t move far and I could feel his gaze still on me.

Gambit

IT KILLED ME TO WATCHStormy fall apart. No matter what I try, it doesn't work. Doc comes through the door and the tension between my shoulders eases a bit. When he got to her, I moved to the side.
