“I wasn’t sure where we stood.”
“Where do you want us to stand?”
His clean scent fills the space between us. “Charlie, I don’t want to come between you and your sister.”
“You’re not—”
“But I want to be with you more than I’ve wanted anything in my life.” His soft words have me holding my breath.
“Really?”
“I know it’s quick and strange, but when you know, you know.” He takes my hands in his. “And Charlie, I know.”
“I do, too,” I say, unable to stop the butterflies from beating their wings against my ribcage. “And I meant what I said. I think you’re great.”
“No, you’re the one who’s great. You took a chance on me.” He cups my face in his hands. “In more ways than one.” He leans down, pressing his lips against mine. My bones turn to jelly as I melt into him.
The last thing I expected when I hired Mick was this, but I’m sure glad it’s happening. Forget what anyone thinks or says, he served his time, and now he’ll be spending the remainder of his sentence with me.
