I’m not sure where I find the strength, but I turn my head so he’s no longer within kissing distance. “I’d rather see if the dragon wants to play than touch a douche like you.”

“And I thought this year was going to be boring. With you around, I’m sure it’ll be fun.” His lips brush my ear, “But don’t push things too far or the fun will be over before it really begins.” With those parting words, he leaves me standing with my back pressed against the shrubs, my mind caught in the gutter and my chest heaving with the effort of not reacting to his words.

I should throttle him the next time I see him. Such a douche. A beautiful douche, but still….

It’s not long before I make my way to the drawbridge of the castle. I swear these Gods are more pompous than anyone I’ve ever met, either that or they’re trying to be cliché… Nah. A freaking castle with a drawbridge and a bloody moat, surrounded by a maze of shrubs, inside two rings of iron fences; It’s over the top, even for Gods.

As I walk up the open drawbridge, I peer down into the water below, curious if there’s anything in the water. At this point, I wouldn’t put it past them to have crocodiles or sharks in there. The only movement I see though are little silver and gold flickers from what I’m assuming are perfectly normal fish. The bridge takes me into the inner courtyard of the castle, where I find myself standing amongst a group of normal looking humans, all standing there with the same stunned looks on their faces that I am sure is on mine.

I release a sigh of relief when I finally spot Eric standing a little apart from the rest of the group. Weaving in and out of the twenty odd people, I make my way towards Eric, but someone grabs my arm, forcing me to a stop.

“Are you Ryxa Day?” The boy asks while I give him a once over, looking for any signs of danger. He’s an ordinary looking guy, clearly not on the Gods level with his plain brown hair and dull amber eyes, but he’s cute all the same. His stance clearly shows how nervous he is about approaching someone he doesn’t know so I relax and give him a small smile and nod.

“I’ve been asked to escort you to the main office.” He says after a minute of standing there staring at me. “You’re very beautiful.” If this guy was a cartoon character he’d be standing there with stars or hearts in his eyes.

Note to self, avoid being alone with this guy, he seems okay now, but I’m fairly certain given a chance he’d try something.

“Um, thanks, I guess.” I mutter trying to keep my composure as he leads me up the path towards a door on the side of the building.

He blushes, actually blushes, “Sorry, it’s just, normally the most beautiful people are the Gods. You aren’t one of them, are you? Cause that would explain so much.”

I keep my voice even as I answer, “Nope, just a human sacrifice… I mean, studentwho doesn’t really want to be here.”

“Would you… There’s a mall here, maybe I could….”

“You were told to bring her to the main office, not flirt with her.” The growly voice seems to be coming from somewhere above me. I’m not sure where though. I tilt my head back looking up at the statues decorating the doorway above us, yet still only seeing stone and wood.

“God? Is that you?” I call out making my escort snicker.

“And here I thought your boyfriend would be the one we’d have to keep an eye on.” The golden God-in-training drops down from on top of the statue above our heads, hanging like a monkey for a moment and giving me a really nice view of his abs. The golden God-in-training isn’t nearly as ripped as the dark haired one, but I still have to admit he’s hot.

“I really like your eyes.” He says as he lets go, landing right in front of me and blocking my line of sight to my escort.

“I really like my eyes too.” I smirk, side stepping him to grab my escorts arm. I drag him closer, positioning him between me and the golden God like a shield. “I like his amber eyes too.” My escort’s cheeks go even brighter and he stands just a little taller. I gulp realising that my harmless comment may not have been so harmless after all.

“You really shouldn’t lead the poor lad on. You know as well as I do that he doesn’t stand a chance of getting into your pants.” The Golden-God forces his way between us once more.

I take a step back, hissing, “Neither do you.” Before turning on my heel and walking into the building we’re standing in front of.

“Playing hard to get just makes me try harder.” He chuckles as I glance around. I’m not sure which way to go, there’s no signs posted anywhere and there are three choices, straight ahead down a long hallway, to the left down another long hall or to the right where I can see a couch and a bookshelf at the end of the shorter hall.

“Straight ahead.” The Golden-God says from far too close to me. Ignoring the far too sexy for his own good Golden-God, I pick up my pace, moving through the hall in front of me at something faster than a walk, but not quite running. All while trying not to gawk like a tourist as we pass a dining hall to my left, a lounge area one door up on the right and a smaller sitting room on the left. From what I can see from peering into the rooms, they all join to another hall at the end.

“Now you’re just inviting me to chase that fine ass.” Golden says, I glance back to find both my escort and the Golden-God still hot on my heels, both staring at my ass.

“So what you’re saying is, if I act more like the rest of the girls and throw myself at you, I’ll be left alone?” I say as I reach the end of the hall. Once again there are three options, not including going back the way I came.

“Nope. We’ll just end up in bed together sooner.” His smirk grows, making his entire face seem more youthful. “My room’s just up those stairs to your left. Want to come take a peek behind the curtain?”

“Nope.” I say popping the P and turning to the right. If he’s telling the truth, then the left leads to a staircase that takes me to the God’s dorm wing of the castle. Not going there in a hurry.

To the right I find another dining hall, this one looks more like a school cafeteria, tables placed in a triangle formation. A single table at the head, then a line of three, followed by a line of four tables. They look like they’d only seat four to a table, which makes me curious how many Gods actually attend this school. The media all agreed that there were only ever ten Gods-in-training per generation, but I’ve never believed them.

“Past the cafeteria and to the left.” Golden-God whispers in my ear. I roll my eyes to the ceiling and get caught up staring at the red carpeting running along said ceiling.

Who puts carpet on the ceiling?

“This place is a maze.” I sigh.
