I’m barged out of the way as Seth pushes between me and Angel, taking her other hand. A blush spreads across her cheeks, but she doesn’t pull away from them. I want to thump them both. Give them a cracked rib or two. They know I like her. They admitted as much back in Seth’s room, yet here they are, getting in the way.

I’m seething as we walk out the main building and onto the path leading to the arena.

We finally arrive at the arena and if it had have taken a moment longer, I was going to be killing my own brothers. Thankfully, they both let go of her hands at the same time before we walk through the doors leading to the grassy oval inside.

“… see on page one-hundred and twenty-five, the final rule we have in place is there to prevent any unfortunate accidents from happening during the training of our young Gods. Under no circumstances are humans allowed to enter the training arena during battle training.” Ares’ voice booms out across the arena like he’s speaking through a sound system, but he’s not. He’s simply projecting his voice using air currents.

Elemental manipulation is one of the first things we’ll be taught once our powers are awakened. I can’t wait to have mine awakened. I hate being weak, it makes me feel like a human. I honestly don’t know how they live their lives knowing magic is real and not ever being able to touch it. I’d go insane if I had to live like that.

Ms Harker glances around, finally noticing our arrival. She glares at Angel, giving her ajust you waitlook that has my fists clenching at my sides. I don’t want Angel getting into trouble right now. If she gets put onto cleaning duties, she won’t be around as much.

Without explaining to the others, I weave my way through the humans until I’m standing right next to Ms Harker. I plaster on my best smile and then whisper, “Thanks for the loan. That one’s a keeper, she didn’t even complain about having to do manual labour.”

Ms Harker’s brows rise, almost disappearing into her grey speckled brown hair, but she nods as though she’s impressed and gives Angel a smile then turns back to pay attention to Ares.

I return to where my brothers are standing. It’s not until I’m right beside Seth that I realise Angel is gone. “Where’d she go?” I growl, pissed that they let her leave.

“What are you talking about, she’s right….” Ty trails off, looking around as though only just now realising she’s gone.

All three of us search the twenty odd humans, but she’s nowhere to be seen. “Where is she?”

“Right there.” Seth’s growl has my head turning to stare at him. Out of all of us, he’s the least likely to get angry, yet he’s pissed right now and it isn’t until I finally locate Angel that I realise why. She’s standing tucked under that damn human boy’s arm. From this angle it looks like he’s kissing the side of her head.

Before I even have time to think, I’m barging through the humans. If it hadn’t been for Seth pulling me up a few feet from Angel, I’d have been pummelling that human boy into the ground.

In fact no…

I struggle against Seth’s hold, forcing him to let go. In the blink of an eye, I have the human boy’s throat in my hands, squeezing until his face begins to change colour.

“Don’t ever touch her again.” I snarl into his ear, low enough that only he can hear me.

His face, which a second ago was turning all sorts of colours, goes completely white, but I still don’t stop. I want him to know that I can take his life any time I want.

“Let’s get one thing clear right now. She ismine. Youever touch her again and I’ll snap your neck like a fucking twig.”

“Kier!” My name snapped from her is enough to make me turn my head, but not enough to let go. It’s the genuine fear in her eyes that makes my hand open.

“Angel, I….” I don’t know what to say. She doesn’t seem to either, just stands there with tears running down her face and a look of horror in her eyes.

“Come on, Kier. Best if we just leave.” Seth’s words are soft, but I hear them.

I don’t agree with him, but I hear him. “No. I….”

“Move, Kier. There’s nothing you can do to fix this right now. All you’re going to do is put a target on her back. You wouldn’t want that, would you?” Ty’s words are nothing more than a hissed whisper in my ear but they get through to me. Cutting me right to the heart. Putting a target on my sweet Angel’s back is the last thing I want to do.

The further away from them we get the clearer I seem to be able to think. I honestly have no idea what came over me just now. I couldn’t stand the thought of him touching her. Of anyone touching her. The weirdest part is, my brothers were touching her, holding her hand and it didn’t bother me at all. Okay that’s a lie, it pissed me off that they could do it so casually, but that was nothing compared to the feelings I have when I think about any other guy touching her.

She’s a poison, seeping into my veins and making me act like a… like a jealous fool.

Stay away from her. That’s what I need to do. Distance myself and wait for these stupid feelings to go away. She’s a human. Nothing could ever come of it. Just a human.

So why does the idea of walking away from her hurt so much? Why does seeing her with tears on her face make me want to go on a rampage and tear my own heart out?

RYXA

“Did you fucking see that, Ryx? He’s a psycho. You need to stay as far away from him as possible.” Eric snaps, pulling me back into his side.
