“Miss Day? As in `Ryxa Day’?” She nods, “You’re human?” I wrinkle my nose, losing interest in this mystery the second I know who she is.

Just my fucking luck. Another human who looks like a Goddess, Kier did mention her name a few times when I spoke to him on the phone while he was out in the human world doing the selections. He’d sounded so obsessed that I took note of the name, curious if he’d finally lose his mind and fall in love.

Speaking of curiosity….

I’m curious why Zeus, Ares, and Poseidon aren’t interested in me looking into her background. Then again, that might just be why they’ve called her in here. Those three meddlesome Gods don’t have any problems getting their hands dirty. So why the fuck are they making me look into this suspected Demi-God?

I barge past the human, losing interest in her as I get lost in my thoughts. She goes down like a sack of rocks as my hard shoulder hits her. I flinch, feeling bad for a moment, but not enough to stop and help her back to her feet. I have a mission to accomplish, or I’m going to be out on my ass with no hope of finishing the mission I came here for in the first place.

It only takes me a few minutes to make my way to the secret meeting being held beneath the castle. Corey and Zane are always the first to arrive, so I join them on the far side of the empty room. “Corey, you were right, they suspect Mia is a Demi.” I say without preamble.

“So what are they making you do?” He asks, scratching the back of his neck.

“The usual, look into her, find out if we’re right. Most likely they’ll want her taken care of if she is.” I sigh, those asshole’s idea of taking care of a Demi usually involves killing them. We’ve so far rescued three Demi-Gods, all of whom have been male, so it wasn’t too difficult to get them out. A female is going to be harder to extract, especially with Ares hanging around.

“They’ve given me six months to figure it out.” I add, knowing Corey will want the full story. Corey’s always been a stickler for facts. He hates it when I leave things out and he finds out about them later.

Corey and Zane are in their last year at the School of the Gods. They started in my last year and despite the age difference we became fast friends. I’m not sure anyone outside of our group would understand why we’re good friends, especially since we are nothing alike. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the mission we all share, we’d probably hate each other. Especially since the two of them are the grandsons of Ares and Zeus. Which is how we ended up teaming up. I guess you could say our bond was forged through mutual hate.

“Six months is enough time to figure it out. We’ll plan for extraction on the off chance she is a Demi, but I hope we’re wrong. The poor girl will be forced to run and hide her entire life if she is.” Zane says, finally joining the conversation.

“What about Ryxa Day? She’s just as beautiful as a Goddess, could she be a Demi as well?” Zane’s eyes glaze over as though he’s lost in lustful thoughts.

“What is it about that girl? Why is everyone obsessed with her?” I ask, growing annoyed at everyone’s obsession with a girl who looks like me.

“What do you mean?” Zane cocks his head to the side, his curiosity making me growl out, “She’s off limits. Kier already seems to have an interest in her, let’s not rock the boat with those three.”

“Oh come on man, she’s a babe.”

“She looks like a female version of me!” I snap. Getting pissed that we’re even having this conversation. I’m not sure what it is about her, but I don’t like the thought of anyone objectifying her. I’m not jealous or interested in her, but there’s something about her that makes me feel almost protective of her. Like she’s family or something.

“Huh, I didn’t even notice that.”

“Oh man, you realise that means you’ve been lusting after a female version of Tanner?” Corey laughs, shoving Zane’s shoulder.

“Hey, if Tanner let me, I’d fuck him too. He’s hot.”

“Enough! Stay on mission. What intel do you have on Mia.” I growl, ignoring Zane’s dig. Not that I’d admit it, but I wouldn’t say no if Zane was serious, he’s not, he doesn’t actually swing that way, but he does like to joke about it more than a normal straight guy would. Especially since he found out that I swing both ways.

Before any of us can say more, Derrick Wolfe joins us and begins explaining what he knows, “Mia Woods, currently assigned to bunk in with Shawn Scott, neither have met before arriving today. Her test scores were almost as high as Ryxa Day’s, however she has lower scores in physical training due to non-participation. I believe her lack of participation was due to her in-human strength, which is what put her on our radar to begin with. Miss Woods lifted an SUV off her sister, saving her life. The human’s chalked it up to adrenalin and the assistance of divine intervention, however we are not so gullible, she displays attributes that would place her firmly in the Demi-God category.”

Derrick Wolfe, he’s the man who set us on our path three years ago. He’s been our mentor, friend and the closest thing to a father figure I’ve had these last four years.

“As for Miss Day, I believe she is not a Demi-God. She is far too similar to Tanner to be anything other than a Goddess, albeit one who has not yet discovered the truth of her parentage. As such, I would like you, Tanner, to get closer to her. See if you can find out if she knows anything about who she really is.”

I begin protesting, but he raises his hand, cutting me off, “I’m well aware that Zeus has given you a task of investigating Miss Woods. We will work around that directive by feeding them information gathered by Zane and Corey, who I believe will soon have the pleasure of accompanying Miss Woods to each of her classes. She’s already having issues with a few of the Goddesses, so keep a close eye on her and make sure she doesn’t out herself before we are ready to put her into hiding.”

“Yes, Sir.” We all respond automatically.

“A moment, Tanner. I believe we have something else to discuss before you leave.” I groan, I knew he’d notice. As soon as Zane and Corey leave, Derrick moves closer, “You’ve been far too quiet this last week. When you joined my mission, you agreed to inform me of all events happening in your lives both inside and out of the school.”

“Yes, Sir.” I mumble.

“Well?”

“It’s nothing, honestly.”

“If it was nothing, you wouldn’t be as down as you have been and you would not be hiding it from me.”
