He grinned. "I'm going to remember that."

I rolled my eyes. “Yeah, sure, right. I’m going to hold you to that.”

When I left his office. I went down to the garage and got in my car. I made plans to have lunch with Anne, Lane, and Kate.

We’d barely sat down when Kate said, “So, Harper, what’s up with the broody, hunky single dad next door.”

I shrugged as I scanned the menu.

“Inquiring minds want to know,” Anne prodded. “What’s up with you and Noel St. Martin?”

“My big news is that I met with Bran and didn’t threaten to kill him once.”

Anne laughed. “That is news.”

“Boring.” Kate closed her eyes and snored. When she opened her eyes again, she said, “I want to hear about hunky single dad.”

I bit my lower lip to stop the silly grin that started to form.

“Oh, there’s news. I can tell. Spill the tea, girl.” Kate snapped my menu away from me.

Three sets of eyes stared at me expectantly.

“I suppose there’s news.” That goofy grin I’d been trying to suppress went full tilt.

“Did you have sex? You look like you had sex. Good sex.”

“Let her talk, Kate,” Lane said. While her expression held interest, it also had concern.

I ignored it. “Not last night, but we actually had something better.”

“Better than sex?” Kate shook her head. “Is there such a thing?”

I laughed. “We talked. I suppose you could say we worked things out. We walked on the beach with Mo—”

“Mo?”

“His son. He made me dinner while I gave Mo his bottle. Together we bathed and put Mo to bed.” I sighed, feeling quite content. “It was a lovely night.”

Kate frowned. Anne and Lane exchanged a look.

“What?”

“It sounds very domestic,” Anne said.

“It sounds boring,” Kate interjected.

“It was lovely. It was his first date.”

“You’re joking?” Lane stopped mid sip of her water.

“As a single father, there’s no way he’s a virgin,” Kate handed me my menu, apparently deciding I could determine my lunch order.

“I didn’t say he’d never had sex, it’s always just been hookups I guess. He said he’d never been in a serious relationship.”

Anne’s brows furrowed in concern. “Is that what you want?”

“He said things were different. So we’re going to see where this thing goes.”
