“Yes. Yes!” I don’t need to beg for him to go harder. He knows. He rails me so hard that the headboard slaps against the wall. By the time he explodes inside me, I’m sobbing.

He’s used to this by now.

His loud curses fade into breathless praise. “That’s my girl. That’s my sweet girl. So good. So damn good.”

He rolls off of me, and I gingerly move to sit on the edge of the bed, noticing how sore I am. Remembering how we just went completely ape shit on each other and conveniently forgot about a condom.

I’d better go shower.

Titus is on one knee in front of me. Holding something. And I completely fall apart, again.

“What? Are you serious?”

“As a doornail,” he answers, completely deadpan. He’s holding a ring box; inside it, there’s a white gold antique princess-cut diamond with a simple band.

“Will you marry me?”

“Now?”

“We don’t have to set a date….”

“No,” I say.

His face falls, and I quickly rephrase that.

“I mean no to not setting a date. Yes, I’ll marry you. I was asking if you meant for me to marry you right now. Could we wait until graduation?”

A smile breaks over Titus’s features, and he exhales in massive relief. “That is the most devastating prank you’ve ever pulled by accident. Don’t ever fucking do that again. Yes. Yes, we can get married after graduation.”

I nod. “Okay. Be right back.”

I hop up from the bed, go to the closet, and pull on my favorite date night dress.

“What are you doing?”

I smile at him and spin around. Then I perch on the end of the bed and hold out my hand. “Here. Now put it on.”

“I don’t understand what’s happening,” Titus says, laughing.

“I can’t tell our children and grandchildren the story of our engagement if the story involves me being naked.”

He blinks up at me. “We can’t?”

“Titus!”

“Right. And getting dressed will change that?”

“Yes. This way, I can tell the truth. That you took me home after Dad’s sentencing hearing, cooked me a nice comforting dinner, kissed me, and decided to make me feel better by asking me to marry you.”

He shakes his head. “You know what? Never mind. You’re perfect. You’re correct, and I love you more than anything in this stinking world.”

“I love your saliva!”

“And I love yours, too, Squeaks.”
