When we stopped, I was surprised.“Is there more?”

“Not yet. There will be.”Reese grabbed a pencil and a blank score sheet and scribbled furiously.

Danny applauded.“That was fucking brilliant.”

Reese’s notes were sloppy and dashed on the page, but I didn’t care.I could see where the music went. She stuck the sheet in front of us.“Help me out.Try this.”

We started at the top, and the notes justflowed.I hit a few spots where she’d added something we hadn’t tried yet, and my brain stumbled, but my fingers kept going. Those tweaks lifted the song even higher.

When we hit the end a second time, I was almost breathless. Why couldn’t I do this at work?“Wow.You did it.”

“We did it.”Reese threw her arms around my neck and squeezed.“Brilliant.We’re absolutely brilliant.”She pulled back, but didn’t take her arms away.

My pulse cranked to full volume and my thoughts stalled at the wild excitement that stared back at me.I’d be an idiot to ignore that something about collaborating with her—musically or sexually—was sparking my creativity.

But I’d be one-hundred percent moron to kiss her again.

Why wasn’t Danny saying anything?Stopping us?

Reese licked her lips.

A tilt of my head, and I could do the same.Bite away that shine.See if her thrill matched the one throbbing inside me.

A flash threatened to disrupt the lock her gaze had on mine, but I didn’t want to break this moment.I was half hard already. From whatever this was.

“Door.”Danny’s soft voice shattered the moment.

I forcedmyself to blink and scoot back, breaking the contact with Reese.“Someone should get that.”I was already on my feet.

I scrubbed my face as I headed upstairs.I was vaguely aware of two pairs of footsteps behind me.When I opened the front door, I was surprised to see two uniformed police officers standing on the porch.

“Evening. We’re looking for Adam Wilson,” one said.“We understand he may be staying here?”

I glanced past them to the driveway.Adam’s car wasn’t here.“He is, but he’s not here right now.Is something wrong?”

“We’re investigating the fire on B Street.I believe he was staying there?”

I nodded. What the fuck did he do now?

“Standard investigation that the fire marshal does with any fire.”The other officer handed me a card.“We just have a few questions for Mr.Wilson.”

As in, arson?“I assure you, Adam wasn’t involved.”My brother was a lot of things, and I had to admit I could see him starting the fire accidentally, because he wasn’t paying attention, but not arson.I took the card anyway.

Officer one shook his head.“No one is being charged with anything. Will you have him call us, and will you call us if you speak with Richard Hedd.”

His business partner?“I’ll do that.”I closed the door, my mind racing. What the fuck did Adam get himself involved with this time?

I didn’t want to think about it.It was too easy to summon the desire that was here moments earlier.I looked at Danny, not sure I trusted myself to look at Reese.I wanted them both, in different ways, but he wasn’t off-limits.“Where were we?Composing, or…”

He raised an eyebrow, one corner of his mouth tugging up.“Pretty sure I was going to watch you kiss Reese, there was going to be another awkward moment where we all discussed whether or not it was okay, I was going to remind you I love a good show, and things were going to move forward from there.”

“Excuse me.”Reese’s tone was sassy.“Do I get a say in this?”

I turned to her.“Always.”
