The icy evening air drapes over me, touching my cheeks, the soft snow kissing my lips.

I pull the door open and slide into my seat.

Even better than that… I move to the middle of the back, so I can stretch my legs and meet my driver’s eyes in the mirror.

I feel like chatting tonight.

“Everything all right?” he asks, slinging an inquiring glance in my direction.

If he has noticed something is wrong, I’m sure Kai has noticed it too.

“Everything is good. We can leave now. I’m going home.”

The car begins to roll when it stops abruptly, and the door slides open, a man climbing in.

The partition wall goes up instantly without requesting it.

I look at Kai in awe.

Soft snow melts on his suit jacket.

“What are you doing here?” he asks, his gaze hovering over me, avoiding my eyes.

I ponder for a split second before leaning over his lap, reaching the handle, and pushing the door open.

“Get out,” I say, colder than the snow.

His gaze meets mine while I straighten up.

Bolts of lightning shoot out of his eyes.

“Get out,” I say in a quieter tone, just as sharp as it was before.

He shows no intention of leaving, so I grab my coat and purse and push through the door on my side.

Both doors fall closed at the same time.

Draping my coat over my shoulders, I knock on the driver’s window. It quickly goes down.

“You know where to take my shopping bags,” I say, already shooting an arm up to hail a cab.

“Stay put,” Kai says to the driver, rounding the car and stopping next to me.

The car doesn’t move.

No cabs are available despite the traffic bringing guests to the hotel.

I spin around and pace away.

“Raven?”

I gesture at him to leave me alone without turning to him.

He catches up with me on the sidewalk and stops in front of me, blocking my retreat to Fifth Avenue.

“What are you doing here?” he asks, his eyes glistening like ice.

I glare at him.
