“Thanks for letting me know…” I say, somewhat amused, before changing the topic. “Are you ready to go home?” I ask.

“I sure am,” she murmurs, nearing the wall of windows and peeking down.

It took me a while to get used to working in a skyscraper and having this amazing view.

“I’m free this weekend,” she says, spinning around to face me. “In case you want to have pizza with Giana and me at her place.”

“You talked to her?”

She nods.

“She called me last night.”

Interesting.

She didn’t mention it today when we had lunch.

“Okay. I don’t know what my schedule is. There are so many things I need to catch up on.”

“No problem. You figure it out. She and I will get together anyway. Call her. Or me.”

“Cool.”

She walks away and stops at the door.

“There’s something else…” she says, pivoting and looking at me. “Word is there’s a huge Christmas party at Robert’s place in the Hamptons this weekend.”

My pulse quickens.

I stare at her blankly.

“Okay.”

She gestures at me, smiling.

“No. I haven’t been invited. It’s mostly his business partners, close friends, and some family.”

I’m not sure whether the last word has any significance. Other than Kai, what other family? His cousins and their families?

Maybe.

I’d be surprised if Kai attended.

“Do you know when it is?”

“I think it’s on Sunday. Marietta was on the phone with a catering company.”

“I see.”

So many things have happened lately, and I’m completely out of the loop.

“All right,” she says, grinning. “I need to go now.”

“We’ll talk later,” I murmur quietly, still under the impression of what she just said.

Shauna leaves my office when my eyes go back to Kai’s office. Fewer people keep him company, but he is still very much busy.

Why didn’t he call me?
