I say nothing more.

His answer is right there. Maybe that was a decision he now fully regrets.

Although out of all men he’s brought into my life, Cardenas is probably the least to pose a threat to him.

Emotions is not what connects me to Cardenas.

The bet he made, the money he paid, and the night we spent together is what connects us.

Interestingly enough, I’m the one who feels threatened by his presence.

I fear that the memory of him might ruin my story with Kai.

I liked Kai last night and today.

I like Kai and me. Me and Kai. I like us alone.

I love when he creates a beautiful world around me––only for me––and we learn how to live in it, sharing feelings, thoughts, and words, while communicating and becoming accountable to each other.

Maybe that’s what I feel right now.

I feel accountable to him, although he made the night with Cardenas possible.

It was Kai’s doing.

And he accomplished what he wanted to accomplish.

Francisco and Alejandro learned they had no chance because Kai would stop at nothing to win. He ruined their chances even if it cost him a lot.

And I?

Well, I stepped into different territory.

Things have changed for me too. He has created an empty space around me and pulled me back to him.

My eyes stay on his face.

He no longer looks at me when someone’s footsteps echo nearby, and his gaze moves to that person who is out of my line of sight.

“Well, well, well… Looks who’s here,” Cardenas says, stopping next to us.

He pulls a chair out and sits at the table without being invited. That is so characteristic of him.

“Hey, man,” he says to Kai, locking hands with him.

Kai greets him casually before Roman shifts his eyes to me.

“Raven.”

I almost fall off the chair at the sound of my name on his lips. I never thought he’d remember my name.

His fiery eyes slide over me like melted wax.

He locks my gaze, a crooked smile tilting his lips.

“Seemingly, you like Miami. I didn’t think I’d see you again,” he murmurs, a smirk pulling at his lips. “Your man got you back, huh?” he tosses at me out of nowhere.

That is so like him. Always running his mouth. No filter.
