“I didn’t think much about it. I thought it was some creep who liked to call random women and jerk off at the sound of their voices. Anyway… But then I thought about what you said about someone targeting different places in our area. Especially homes to break into if no one was home. Maybe to steal something. Or maybe to do something else. If you didn’t call me, it might’ve been one of them. At this point, I think it’s more than one person. And it all seems much more serious than I thought.”
His face is unreadable for a few moments before a smile creases his lips.
“You thought it was me…?” he murmurs.
I study his face seriously before gently swatting his forearm with my hand, quietly chuckling.
“Is that all you’ve got from my story?”
He searches my eyes, a smile lining his gaze.
“I’m flattered,” he says.
“You’re not serious.”
“I am serious. That’s why you have to come to my place and live with me.”
“Ugh… You mean temporarily sharing your place with you. One of your places.”
He gestures at me dismissively.
“Whatever way you want to put it. Yes. You can sleep at my place.”
“You’re teasing me now.”
I shift in my seat, ready to climb out, when he touches my arm, prompting me to move my attention back to him.
“I can check who that person was,” he says, no longer joking.
“Seriously?”
He nods.
“But you have to live with me. Seriously, now.”
His smile has faded, his hand resting on my arm.
“How can you find out who it was?”
“I’ll have Grayson check your phone records and track that person down. Maybe it was a wrong number call. If that’s the case, at least you get peace of mind.”
“We can do that… Sure.”
I ponder a little longer.
“I’m not ready to move in with you,” I say.
He looks at me without a smile on his lips.
“I know that’s not what it means,” I continue in response to his questioning look. “It’s not why you have suggested it, I mean… But to me, it’s important. And it feels like I actually move in with you.”
He thinks about with for a second.
“Okay. No problem. I respect that. You can still use my place whenever you want. As I said before… I’m not always home. In fact, I’ll travel next week and the week after, so if it makes you feel any better, you’re more than welcomed to stop by.”
“Okay,” I murmur before he signals me to climb out.
