“Really?”
I nod.
More life comes into his eyes.
“What prompted that?” he murmurs, a slight smile curving his lips.
“It’s been a long time coming… I think. He felt different the entire evening. I wasn’t surprised when I saw him at my door.”
“What did you say?”
“I convinced him to stay.”
His eyes shift like a curtain of water, displaying a different color. A darker, grayish hue. Or maybe his pupils react.
“Why?” he asks.
“Why?” I murmur.
He smiles.
“Mm-hmm.”
At least we get to talk about something else and move away from that dark side of our existence.
He doesn’t seem angry that Francisco spent some time in my room. And I don’t know whether I like that.
Maybe a part of me wanted to get a reaction from him. A shred of jealousy. Something. Maybe a sign of insecurity.
“Why did I ask him to stay…? I thought he was rushing into making that decision. In all fairness, if he checks himself out, we all should do it.”
He flashes an amused smile.
“Is that what you think?”
“Yes.”
“He is his own man. He makes his own decisions.”
“I respect that,” I say. “But I like him. And honestly, being stuck with you and Alejandro scares me.”
My confession gets him thinking.
“What scares you so much?”
I shrug, refusing to elaborate.
“Are you afraid of getting to a point where you must choose?”
“No.”
Yes.
That and more.
Losing one of them or both comes to mind too.
“You know…” I start, glancing at his chest briefly. “I never imagined orgies like this.”
