“Does that mean something?”

My head was nodding. “It could.” My thoughts were going a million different directions until I remembered Julia’s plea. ‘Make him stop.’

“How long do you want him tailed?” Rob asked.

Until he takes his last breath. I reconsidered. “Don’t stop. Get others on the job if you need to. If and when I call, I want to know exactly where my dear brother is located down to the longitude and latitude.”

“Considering the two Long Island Teas he had for lunch, I’m guessing things aren’t going as planned.”

“He drank his lunch?”

Rob scoffed. “You said you weren’t interested in his diet.”

What had Phillip said on the phone?

He said he pictured me with my money, drinking myself to death.

Project much, brother?I didn’t say that aloud, but the mere thought brought a smile to my face. “Thank you for keeping track of him. Keep his phone monitored too. Make sure it is coming from wherever he’s located.”

“Will do.” Rob paused. “Is your fiancée all right? I should have gotten you that information sooner.”

“She’s doing well. We all fucked this up. Let’s not let it happen again.”

“Yes, sir.”

I disconnected the call thinking about what I’d just said. I was right. There was plenty of blame to be shared. It also wouldn’t do me any good to fire everyone and start from scratch. Hell, I’d fucked up too by not telling Michael that I had a brother who could look like me.

I rocked back against my chair, letting the relief give me a slight reprieve. I spoke aloud, reconfirming what I’d learned. “He’s in Chicago.”

Does that mean someone else is in Ironwood, or is the answer as simple as a virtual private network?

What is Logan’s role in all of this?

Why would the Butlers tank the perceived value of Wade?

The relief didn’t last long.

Sending a quick text to my new personal security team, I confirmed Phillip’s whereabouts and asked Michael to inform Ms. Banks with Sherman and Madison. My next call was to the loan officer who had taken my balloon payment.

After a redundant five-minute discussion, I convinced him that the news that Julia McGrath was an infamous runaway bride was false. Our wedding was still planned. I was not looking to sell off my shares of Wade Pharmaceutical.

I clicked on the email I’d seen at the office as I wondered who Ashley from GreenSphere was and why she was contacting me. The email was short and to the point. She had an exclusive time-sensitive investment opportunity. She left me a phone number.

Before I called Ashley, I returned another call I meant to return earlier.

Lena answered on the third ring. “Do you have your runaway bride back?”

“Are you joking? I’m not in the mood.”

“Does that mean she’s still missing?”

Taking my cell phone to the windows, I paced as I talked. “Julia is with me. She’s safe. It also means I want Phillip gone for good.”

“If you’re discussing a murder-for-hire, I don’t know a thing. But discreetly, I might have a guy.”

“Shit, Lena, you do have all the contacts.”

“You never know.”
