He nods. “I blew it that time. I screwed up, but now I’ve got you again, and I’m not letting go for seventeen-and-a-half hours. I won’t fuck it up a second time.”
“You said you got busy that night.” I clear the lust clogging my throat. “You were fucking me with your eyes, then you were gone.”
“Mmm.” His large hand kneads my ass. “Shittiest timing ever.”
“What got you busy?”
He pulls my earlobe between his lips until my legs turn weak. “Work stuff, don’t worry about it.”
Don’t worry about it.“What if I say yes to spending the night with you, then work callsriiiiightbefore you come?”
He lets out a desperate laugh and bites down on my neck. “Don’t put that on me, Dee. I’ll die.”
“Oz gets calls in the night all the time. Would you go? If the phone rang during our one night together, would you answer the call? Would you leave, even if I was in your bed, naked and wanting?”
He nods and pulls me impossibly closer. “I’d have to go. There are a million reasons why I’d have to go, but two of them are in this room right now. Oz just got married, and X is already drunk. I’m up next.”
“Who’s there right now? Who’s defending our little town while the boys in blue get laid at a wedding reception?”
He chuckles. “Libby’s on for now. She’s got a couple other juniors there with her. But I’m on call.”
I nod and contemplate his words. Peeking over his shoulder, I eye the band of slightly scrawny misfits on the stage among flashing lights, then I get a glimpse of Oz leading my glowing cousin into the broom closet Riley and I were first heading to. Turning, I catch sight of Alex, this town’s most senior police officer, throwing back a line of shots.
They’re a mess. And they won’t be working tonight.
“Okay.”
Smiling, Riley arches back to catch my eyes. “Yeah?”
I nod. “Yeah. One night. One chance. And I could’ve been with the entire King’s Chaos band.At the same time.” His eyes flash. “So you better make it good.”
