The officers did their jobs and interviewed us all, but gave a warning before leaving.

“If there is any hint of this being a turf war or a situation that involves anything pertaining to drugs, you may be looking at possible charges,” the officer said.

“How? Our place got shot up and you’re looking to charge us?” Bones was visibly upset about the whole thing.

“I said if Bones. If. If you and your boys didn’t do anything, then you’re good.” The officer acted calm and neutral.

The other officer whose badge number I couldn’t make out was quiet.

“Great, thanks for coming so quickly, Officer,” he said.

“You’re welcome.”

The officers moved away from the entrance and into their vehicle.

“Wait, how do we know this was cartel?” I was skeptical when really I had no reason not to believe it.

Coyote picked up the bullet and showed Bones. “This.” Engraved on the bullet was the symbol of the cartel. A round circle with one line through the middle.

“Ahhhh. Man. This sucks,” Gunner said in a defeated tone.

“Balls. Big hairy ones,” Bear confirmed.

We all worked together to board the front door up as one whole section of it was shattered.

Once we’d successfully done that Bones called Numbers to stay back along with Smoke. “Did you find the guns, by the way?” Bones asked Smoke.

I listened in.

“Yep, two of them, loaded. Too late now, but at least we know we have them on hand for now,” Smoke relayed.

“If one of the shop owners saw this, I hope they don’t say too much. These things spread like wildfire,” Bones said, his face flashing with irritation.

“Yup,” I said listlessly. “That’s the ‘Sip for you. People are always talking.”

After we finished up with the boarding, everyone was given a new set of instructions to lay low and to watch their backs.

When I got home, I felt a little empty as Jaz wasn’t there. I decided the next time I saw her, it was time to get a few things off my chest.
