“I’ll let the staff know.” Kim hugged me. “Good night, girl.”

The shower felt so good I think I stood in the warm water for at least twenty minutes. Eventually, when I started to prune, I reluctantly shut it off and reached for a towel. Her blow dryer was plugged in and ready to go. I spent another ten minutes blow drying my hair.

I wonder if the phone person texted.

I was tucked in on the couch, ready to sleep, but the curiosity to check the cell overtook me. I had to laugh when I saw the response. This person had a funny sense of humor. I felt compelled to continue playing along.

“Hanging out all over the place? Is that a clue?”

“It could be.”I answered.

“Have you been shopping?”

“Nope. I’ve been enjoying the Christmas music.”

“Have you been dancing to it?”

I laughed out loud again until Kim came into the room. I tried to hide the cell, but she caught me.

“What’s going on over there with that cell? Wait, you don’t have a cell.” Kim poured herself a glass of water. “And what are you laughing at?”

“It’s not my cell. I found it, but the owner just contacted it this morning.” I laid the cell next to me. “The person who owns it has been texting the cell as if the cell was a person.”

“You lost me. Say it again.” Kim sipped on her drink.

“Whoever owns this cell texted it this morning with the code to open it. So, I opened it and we have texted each other a few times.” I rambled but handed her the cell. “The person texts the cell as if they think the cell is a person.”

“Oh, I get it. It’s funny, actually.” Kim plopped down next to me.

“That’s what I’ve been laughing at out here.” I reached to take the cell back. “This person clearly isn’t concerned about not having their cell back, but it’s a funny person.”

“Perfect. I think it’s a guy.” Kim leaned back on the couch. “Maybe it’s your prince charming.”

Chapter 16

Asher

Iwoke feeling relaxed and looking forward to the day. Usually, when the whole family was together, there was something upside down, but this time I didn’t care what comments might be coming my way. I rolled over and reached for my cell and sent my other cell a text.

“Good morning. Did you sleep well?”

“Like a bug in a rug.”Came the response.

“Do you have plans for the day?”

“Maybe take some pictures.”

“Exciting. Send me some.”

“As you wish.”

I pushed the covers back and stood next to the bed, then reached for the remote to open all the curtains. It was my favorite feature, so much so that I had them installed in my penthouse and Sawyer had them installed on the island. A quick shower and I headed downstairs to the kitchen in search of breakfast.

“Young man, if you touch that bacon you’re gonna get this spoon across those knuckles,” Diana scolded. “The family should be down soon.”

“Aw, come on, I’m starving. Don’t you feel bad starving the baby of the family?” I slid over next to her. “Plus, I’m a growing boy.”

“Only thing growing on you is that long hair.” Diana waved her wooden spoon at me when I tried to slide a piece of bacon my way. “Off with you.”
