“Well, I can tell you that all of those men at the table in the corner are glad you’re here,” Trey said, “and so am I. With that, may I have this dance? Or after you eat, that is.”

“Trey, you’re too much, but thank you. And yes,” I said, “I’d love to dance with you.”

Maybe I made a good first impression on Trey today. He has certainly been attentive. I need to ask Victoria if my husband-to-be is Trey. We both definitely like dessert more than dinner.

Henry took the seat next to me and leaned in. “Are you enjoying yourself tonight?”

“Yes.” I nodded, unable to stop myself from briefly looking at Trey. “It is getting better.”Why can’t I keep my eyes off Parker when I should be looking at Trey? Crickey, Trey just saw me looking at him. Darn now he’s coming over.

“It’s time to dance, my lady.” Trey gave an exaggerated bow. “Shall we?”

I felt my mouth form a silly smile. I couldn’t seem to help it when Trey was around. Something about him made me want to smile. He was always ridiculously happy. I took his hand, winked at Murphy, sending her a private message that I had figured it out and that I could really like Trey.

Murphy made a weird face back at me.Maybe I misread her pushing me before. Maybe it’s not Trey.

We danced for an hour without stopping. Anyone watching could see we were enjoying each other’s company.

Chapter 22

Parker

Murphy walked up behind me and put her arm around my waist. “Hey big brother, you’re looking a little jealous of Trey right now.”

“Don’t be ridiculous brat. Why would I be jealous?” I downed the last of his drink “Come on let’s dance.”

I pulled Murphy onto the dance floor.

“What’s with you tonight. Are you interested in Mia?” Murphy asked.

“No.”

“Then why are you watching every move they make?”

“I don’t know. There’s no explanation I guess.” I said turning them away from Mia and Trey. “She looks like she like his company better anyways.”

There was no explanation for how I was feeling. I couldn’t help but notice the way Mia was looking at Trey and Trey at Mia. Her blue eyes going wide with wonder as they twirled around the floor. Of course she would be attracted to me. All the girls loved Trey. I’d known that since grade school when I’d had a crush on Lindsey McDonald, but she’d only had eyes for Trey.

“Ah, so you’re still holding a grudge about Lindsey McDonald.” Murphy teased.

“What? No. That’s also ridiculous.” I snapped back at her. “That was a grade school crush.”

“Yes, but Trey got the girl then, too.” Murphy said walking away with an exaggerated hair flip.

I had been thinking about Mia all week, whether I was with her or away from her. I thought about her in my meetings. Ever since I met her, I couldn’t get her off my mind. She was driving me crazy now with that look in her eyes for Trey.

I did the only thing I could think of besides walking onto the dance floor and physically removing Mia from Trey’s arms. I went to the bar for another drink. Where I stayed for the next thirty minutes.

“Mia seems to be having a good time,” Murphy said, sliding up beside me at the bar.

“Is she now?” I sniped at her, pointing to my shot to be refilled and staring at the dance floor.

“Trey also seems to be having a good time tonight,” Murphy said. “He has stayed pretty active on the dance floor.”

I turned around to the bar.

“Unlike others, who just stand in the corner and glare,” Murphy said. “You know, if you want to dance with her, you should just ask her. You’re practically drooling.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” I threw my head back, gulping down another shot and turning to watch Mia and Trey laughing.
