“You’re the boss, but I’ll wait to shop with you since I have no idea what will be needed,” I said. “Unless you have a list of specific stores.”
“Mia, please don’t worry yourself about this. I want you to have a good time preparing.” Victoria said pulling her wallet from her purse
“I have a credit card for you in your name,” Victoria handed her two cards, “along with a debit card to your bank account. Please, shop if you would like too. There is no credit limit so buy whatever your heart desires.”
“This seems like too much. I’ve already been given the money needed.” I twisted my hair as usual
“Mia, we will shop Wednesday for the important stuff. For now buy what you like. Don’t hesitate, just say yes and buy it.” Victoria said squeezing my hand shut with the two cads inside
“Remember, no credit limit. So, have fun.”
Chapter 12
MIA
Monday morning came, and I was up at seven a.m. I sat on the edge of the bed wringing my hands and lecturing myself. The figure-eight pattern I had been pacing hadn’t made my thoughts any clearer.
There is no need to be nervous. I’m just going to the city with him to take care of the puppy. That’s all. It’s not living together or anything even close to it. Consider it getting to know your brother-in-law.
There was a knock at her door. It was too early to leave for the city. I took a deep breath and squared my shoulders as I opened the door.
Relief washed over me. Diana stood in the hallway with a note from Victoria and a small envelope.
“If you want, I can help you get packed,” Diana said, looking past me to the empty suitcase. “It looks like you haven’t started yet.”
“I don’t really know what to pack for the city, do you?” I asked. “I mean I know it’s cold and I have my boots and sweaters, but will I need any other clothes?”
A light tap on the open door startled us both.
“Hi, Sequin Girl,” Parker said leaning on he door frame “You almost ready to go?”
“Hi,” I squeaked, then gulped for air. “I’ll be ready soon, I promise.” I reached for my robe, irritated by my reaction to him.
He stood there smiling at me as if he hadn’t seen me in months, and here I was a sight for sore eyes. I hadn’t even brushed my hair yet.
“No hurry. We don’t leave for another forty-five minutes,” he said. “I’ll be in Dad’s office when you’re ready. I made some tea for you too.” He sauntered off.
“He made tea?” Diana said “That’s a first. Usually he has his face in his laptop or a file.”
So, he doesn’t usually make his own tea. I’ll have to remember that. Should I be impressed he made it for me?
Victoria had sent a note letting me know she would meet me in the city on Wednesday for lunch and some shopping so no need to pack more than casual clothes. Plus, as promised, in the envelope was a few more credit cards and cash for anything I needed or wanted. The note read:
Mia,
Time to get used to the pampered life. These credit cards have no limit, so don’t be shy. This was our deal, so please buy whatever you desire. See you in the city. The cash is for the street vendors.
Victoria
She thought of everything. No credit limit?
Chapter 13
MIA
“This car is different,” I said as I slid into the car and onto soft, cinnamon-colored leather seats.
Heated seats. This I could get used to.
