He wanted to reassure her. “Yeah, it’s all fire between those two. I guess because they’re so alike, but she’s a sweet girl at heart. You’ll see.”

“Um-hmm, I’ll take your word for it.” Kate quickly bit her bottom lip as if she hadn’t wanted to tell him that. He wasn’t used to Kate not being kind or sweet, and her reluctance to get to know Fianna better made him chuckle.

He picked up his girl from the barstool and stood her in front of him. “Come, let’s go see Errin. We’ve got a surprise for her.”

“Really? She loves surprises. What is it?”

“Some guy is going to come out of a giant cake,” Donovan deadpanned.

“What do you mean?” Searching his eyes for the truth, Kate seemed unsure.

“Well, you started a strip act for me not so long ago, so you must know a thing or two about it?” He quirked his brow.

“You can’t be serious,” she scoffed.

“No, cupcake, of course I’m not serious.” He kissed her temple and squeezed her ass cheek.

“What do you think Pops would say if we had those kinds of surprises? He would grab his new walking cane and go after the poor guy.” He chuckled.

She smiled up at him, probably imagining that scenario. “What is your surprise, then?”

“You’ll see, cupcake. All in good time. I guess it’s safe to say you hate surprises?”

“Yes. I can’t stand them. Just tell me already.” She halfheartedly slapped his chest.

He snickered and kissed her behind her ear. “Come, it’s almost midnight.”

“But it’s been her birthday all day, not after midnight.”

“Yeah, well, fuck the semantics. We’re going to give your sister the biggest birthday party she’s ever had. She’s never going to forget this year’s party, that’s a promise.”

She narrowed her eyes at him and stuck out her tongue. “I hate you and all your talk in riddles.”

He guffawed and decided to walk them over to the back of the pub, next to where the back entrance was. When she noticed him steering them away from their family and friends, she squeezed his hand. He turned her around and caged her in as he placed both hands next to her head against the wall.

“So, little Miss Red Riding Hood, I think it’s a damn shame we have to hang around for the big surprise; otherwise, I would’ve dragged you out of here and spanked your ass as red as your hood for sticking out that little tongue of yours.”

His eyes roamed over her sexy outfit. Her aquamarine orbs and luscious long chocolate hair stood out from under her red hood, and she had her ample cleavage pushed up in a white corset. He fingered the lace ribbons that crossed her chest, and Kate sucked in a breath.

He was even more drawn to her this night than usual. The whole sexy innocence was doing him in. He felt like the big bad wolf, ready to defile this sweet creature. He hadn’t let her out of his sight all night, never letting any of those fuckers in this pub come close to her. He saw plenty of guys trying to sniff around his girl but not while he was around. Mine.

He kissed her lips, and she opened up for him. His tongue entered her mouth, and the dueling of their tongues resulted in them both writhing and moaning. He fisted her skirt that clung to her tight ass and pushed her into his erection.

“Oh, Don….”

“Mmmm. That’s right, feel what you do to me. Fuuck, I want you so bad. You’re so fuckin’ hot.”

She blushed and bit her bottom lip. “I want you.”

“Hearing you say that is almost painful. I need you too, but we have to wait. Fuck. After I take you home, I’m going to fuck you so hard, you’ll be hoarse after screaming my name.”

He licked the side of her throat, and she shuddered against him. He never knew how good it could be between a couple, but thank fuck, he’d found the one. This was it. Kate was the one. Just as he was about to tell her that, his dad came from the kitchen holding a big-ass birthday cake.

And behind Sean, Kate’s brothers Calum, Evan, and Conner walked into the pub. They sang “Happy Birthday” and threw confetti from those poppers. The rest of Donovan’s family joined in on the song. Errin jumped from her chair, bumping into several partygoers while running up to her brothers. Her black ballerina outfit swooshed as she gracefully jumped into Calum’s awaiting arms.

As they hugged, her brothers formed a huddle around her. Seeing Errin crying her eyes out, Donovan really felt for the girl. He knew she’d felt homesick these past few weeks. Knowing her birthday was coming up, the Mills brothers came up with the idea to surprise her by flying her brothers out to Austin.

Kate had let go of Donovan’s hand to run over to the huddle of her brothers and sisters as Kayla was already there. When Conner spotted Kate, he immediately opened his arms for her to join their group hug.
