“I’m no coward, B,” Donovan said in a dark voice.
Duncan stood from his seat on the couch and emphasized his words while waving his big hands in the air. “Bro, yer scared shitless. Just take a look in the mirror. It’s the first time that a woman affects ye and yer driving her as far away as possible. Fuckin’ random chicks these past months didn’t chase ye feelings for Kate away. Coming to her apartment yesterday and backing out at the last minute didn’t do shit for ye either. Ye got to man up and go for her. For once and for all.”
Donovan stood from the couch and walked over to the window. He held his palm against the cool glass and took a deep breath. “Yeah. Tell me something I don’t know. I just don’t know how to make up for yesterday…. Fuck. Let alone for the past few months.”
“Yeah, okay, we’ll just have to come up with a plan. A ‘make Kate forget that Don is an arsehole’ plan.” Declan was always the most pragmatic brother out of the bunch. Being a cop brought the hands-on mentality out in his younger brother.
Ronan snickered. “Well, fuck me, are we having a slumber party? If I’d known, I would’ve brought my pj’s with me. Man, it’s gonna take forever to come up with such a plan. Don did a good job on screwing himself royally in the arse.”
As usual, the Mills brothers ignored Ronan’s remarks.
“Kayla went over to Kate’s today. Said that Kate wouldn’t talk about it.” Duncan had inside information Donovan needed if he was to come up with a plan.
“Your girl knows Kate best. Does she still want us to be together?”
“Well, my wildflower seems to like the idea of you and her sister together. Don’t ask me why—maybe because you resemble her brother Calum in many ways, so she likes you? Dunno. But Kayla said something that had me thinking all’s not lost. She said that Kate may have acted like nothing was the matter, but my wildflower saw she was hurting. And she figured, if she was hurt, deep down there’s still a piece of Kate that cares enough to be affected by you.”
“Hmm. I hope I didn’t mess it up for good.”
