“I’ll see you later.”
She nodded, but he saw her bottom lip jet out, which he ignored.
He got to the floor his company was in the process of renovating and caught sight of Daniel.
“Hey, man, I need to ask a favor, but I don’t want to talk about it right here and right now.”
“You got it. Call, and we’ll meet somewhere if you want, or you can come to my place.”
Cullen smacked his shoulder. “Thank you.”
Cullen got so busy with the bathroom he worked through lunch. He figured he’d make up for all the time he’d taken lately because of Hannah. Although they never said anything or complained, he needed to pull his weight.
“Hey, Cullen, you’ve got a visitor,” one of his men said.
Cullen stood and wiped his hands on the rag he always carried in his back pocket. Hannah stood by the elevator.
“Baby, what are you doing? I told you I’d come and get you.”
“I know, but the offices are closing, and the lights are going off, and it’s scary there. I had Cason bring me up. He’s over talking to Logan.”
Cullen looked out a window across the room and saw how it was getting dark, then checked the time on his watch. “Fuck. I’m sorry, baby. How long did you wait for me?”
“Not long. I tried to call you, but it went to voicemail.”
He pulled out his phone and turned up the volume. He also turned it to vibrate just in case he hit the volume again.
Jesus, he was fucking up. He wrapped his arms around her and set his chin on the top of her head. “I’m so sorry. I promise to do better.”
She leaned her head back. “You didn’t do anything wrong, Daddy.”
“Yes, I did. I need to take better care of my little bird.”
“Are you ever going to stop calling me that?” she asked.
He grinned. “Ummm. Nope.”
She snorted.
“Let me put my tools away, and then I’ll take you home, and we’ll cook dinner together.”
She bounced a few times and clapped. “I love to cook with you.”
“I love it, too.” He took her hand and walked back to find one of his partners.
“Hey, Blake. Is there anything I need to do right now?”
Blake tossed a board away. “No, man. You got done in one day that would have taken anyone else three.”
“I just wanted to catch up. I felt like I was slacking.”
“Well, you weren’t. I have to tell you, if I had a little woman at home, I definitely wouldn’t be here right now.”
Cullen squeezed his shoulder. “You’ll find yours.”
“I hope so. Now, take this pretty little thing home. She looks tired,” Blake said.
“I will. I’ll see you tomorrow,” Cullen said as they walked away.
