“What is that place?” She pointed.

“I think it’s a store, and it looks like it’s part of the diner,” he said and then walked around the front of the truck.

Her door opened. Cullen helped her out and then put an arm around her waist. It felt funny because she’d accepted that they weren’t together, and now it was like his anger hadn’t ever happened.

“Are you still angry with me?” she asked when they got close to the door.

He cupped her face in one hand. “No, baby. I’m not. I’m sorry I stormed out, but at no time did I ever think we weren’t a couple or together. I forget how sensitive you are sometimes. We’ll talk more about this when we get home. I have a lot to say about you running off as you did.”

“I wanted to get away,” she said.

“Well, how’d that work for you? You ended up in a part of town that had gangs and drug dealers along the streets. You both were in considerable danger, little bird.”

She nodded. She’d come to the same realization the night before.

“Let’s eat.”

He led her into the place, and she looked around. She was charmed by the old-fashioned décor. “This is great.”

Cullen nodded and pointed to a booth. “They’ve got a booth for us.”

She smiled and headed their way.

Hannah slid into the booth to sit by the wall across from Kiera. One look at her friend’s face told her a lot. Kiera blushed every time she looked at her brother out of the corner of her eyes. While he blatantly stared at her with his arm on the back of the booth.

“What would you guys like to drink?” Cullen asked her.

Hannah looked up at the pretty waitress standing at the end of their booth, ogling Cullen and Rhys.

“I’ll take an orange juice, please,” Hannah said. She turned to Cullen. “What about you, darling?”

Hannah noticed Cullen bit his lip as if to keep from laughing.

“I’ll take coffee,” he said without looking up.

Hannah grinned when her brother didn’t take his attention off Kiera and just answered the waitress without turning around.

When the woman walked away, Hannah had a strong urge to stick her tongue out at her, but she knew Cullen would catch her.

“I’ll take an egg and toast,” Hannah said.

Cullen looked down at her. “That’s not enough, baby.”

“I don’t think I can eat more than that.”

Cullen grinned. “Yes, you can. The moment you see and smell my French toast, you’ll be asking me for bites. You do the same thing with French fries, and it happens every time.”

Hannah wrinkled her nose. “Fine, I’ll take a piece of French toast. Can you order it?”

He nodded. “Yes, of course.”

He’d always done that, so it didn’t feel weird to her. She could see Kiera’s shock, and then she stuttered at something her brother whispered to her. Kiera nodded, closed the menu, and set it down.

Hannah was confused.

Cullen leaned over and whispered in her ear. “The menu flustered her because she’s tired, and there’s so much on it, so she’s letting your brother order for her.”

“I do that,” she said.
